Pearl Jam

Post by Dozy »

30 years later
How f**king awesome are they.

I am sitting in the bar, pint in hand , Sirens blaring ...now Black

Who still loves the same bands of their teens today more than others.

We take phases , phases come and go, this never went.

Happy Friday, I've had beer again.

Before you ask, they are not big in China

Live on 2 Legs is a fantastic album that kind of serves as a Greatest Hits. It also pulls a lot from Yield, which I think is an underrated album. Given to Fly is one of the all-time epic rock anthems.

Vs has some of my favourite songs, I would say 2/3s of it is on par with Ten and that’s some follow up considering Ten was an Appetite for Destruction level debut album. The musical feel of Vs I prefer but Ten is near perfect.

Ten sounds awful, mixed by a def engeneer, still is great,
great songwriting.

Vs mix is spot on, still sounds very very good today, while Ten
seems a demo nowadays.

I love those two albums a lot

I was at Roskilde in 2000 when people were crushed watching Pearl Jam. Fortunately, I was right, right at the very back of the 100,000 people watching and wasn't pushing or shoving anyone.

Other than that, pretty unique sound that Pearl Jam have. Jeremy in particular is a classic, great bass line.

EDIT: Chokes me to think how long ago some of these things came out. I can remember listening to a cassette of one of their albums when it first came out with one ear of a shared pair of earphones with this goth girl I knew. So long ago.

12 string bass…

Ament played a Hamer 8 string, and 12 string bass a fair bit on those first couple of albums.

Ten has a very live feel to the mix. It’s not my favourite due to that, plus too many ‘anthems’. Always preferred Vs as an album.

Black is near perfection, though. Also loved Oceans as well.

I don’t think very highly of Pearl Jam… once upon a time, yes… but…

Vitalogy is easily their best album.

You know, the song is loosely based on two separate school shooting incidents?

I remember reading an article that featured quotes from the mother of Jeremy. She was distraught with the song lyrics. It's a great song, it's just not respectful at all of what must have been hell for the parents.

Colin Meloy from the Decemberists is much worse. Ugh. Quite like Vedder’s earthy drawl. The Into the Wild soundtrack doesn’t suffer from his vocal delivery dominating.
