Unfortunate but probably the right call (if true).
Re: Saffas withdraw from RC
Does Twitter suggest whether it was unilaterally or with SANZAAR member agreement?
If correct, it makes all the debate about the ABs and Christmas a bit academic.

Although this paragraph is telling - and normally sorts out the arguments in pro sport
Do you want the money or not?White conceded that the dire financial implications of not going to Australia would probably force the hand of the South African administrators who must also sort out the conditions around government clearance to send the Springboks overseas amidst the current health crisis.

Re: Saffas withdraw from RC
If the Boks don't play, it's because they're unable to. There was a Bok A v B team match, so the plan was to play. Not many of the players have played more than two games since lockdown (guess the Europe based players have played more?), the logistics of quarantine and being able to train together in Aus doesn't seem finalised from media reports.
Financial hit would be huge, could also mean no test matches before the Lions in 2021. The only reason SARU would take both those hits, is because they cannot get the team out in time.

They’re protecting their new found form. Had they still been in their multiple seasons long slump they’d have nothing to lose and wouldn’t entertain taking the financial hit. They’d be in Aus.

Pretty shitty stunt from the South Africans, holding the entire comp to ransom. Especially after the way South African posters were mocking and trolling NZ posters just days ago for wanting the AB players to be able to spend Christmas with their families.
Re: Saffas withdraw from RC
After watching the last 2 weeks of local rugby, the players are in no shape to play international rugby. Downright dangerous.

You aren't serious, are you? Super Rugby Aotearoa finished months ago. Why is training ground fitness good enough for the AB's but not the Springboks?

Eh? What does having many months (even years) to prepare for a competition got to do with playing for 2 weeks after being completely locked down for several months in your own home?Anonymous 1 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 11:38 amYet you will happily go to a rugby world cup and beat the shit out of Namibia

On plus side they could now continue the school based drugs programmes for the younger players for an additional set of months before testing would continue.
Good investment in the future.
