I thought he knocked it on, tbh. If the ground is the thing that stops you losing the ball, you've lost it forward.

You just feel that four quick try’s to the Wallaby’s might just be enough.

A surge back would differ this team from recent previous, they need time though

Yeah, there's no way he got hands on the ball before the ruck formed there.

NZ have benefitted from it a bunch of times (especially in the first half) so can't really complain, but Gardner has allowed way too much lattitude for the tackler/defence at the breakdown.

He's let the defence play it without getting back onside, come in from the side and given split second penalties when a player gets hands on the ball.

Knees on the ground constitutes a tackle. So he was on the ground tackled. Got to his knees, still tackled. Then placed the ball by getting back on the ground, still tackled. Maybe there is an argument for holding while tackled but given you can place the ball when tackled I think that’s a long bow to string (and not what he was pinged for).

Getting up to a knee has always been a penalty when a player is held in the tackle. If he wasn't held he could have done that fine.

Farva, your argument fails here because if he was tackled as you say he should have released the ball instead of playing it.

Yes it is.

He's allowed to place the ball in any direction, and the interpretation is that he's not permitted to use his arms and legs to propel himself forward when doing it.
