Wallabies Fans, any positives from the game?

I thought Jordan Petaia played well. As did Hanigan. Scrum didn't go too badly either.
Anything else?

I just put my analysis in the Wallabies 2020 thread so won't repeat it here. In summary, dissapointing, but not horribly so, there are a few positivess and a few likely selection changes given Rennie has showed he is ruthless with selections.

Wilson was good. Petaia to start next up. Hannigan is not my 6, tho.

Did my email arrive?

Most of the stats were quite even. The missed tackles really killed the Wallabies.

You guys opened the ABs up out wide on various occasions, plenty to feel positive about, just lacked the finishing and patience. Slipped off too many tackles today, compared to last week. Pretty messy game all round but the difference was the ABs were able to hold their sh.t together for 15 minutes and that was enough.

Sorry 'bout that. It was showing US sports pre game today (and has worked before) but I didn't attempt to watch any of the options during this match.

I thought Ned was good, Wilson a beast again. Who comes from OS? Latu and maybe Skelton?
White is tenacious and really competes but I’d have Tate on the bench. Gordon looked a bit lost again.

We need a more effective attack. Petaia will help. Maybe Lolesio at 10, JOC at 12 and JP at 13 if Toomua is out, which he most likely is.

No positives. It was a typical Eden park performance. If there's anything to take from it then it's a lesson for Tupou and Amosa. Youthful exuberance has no place in tests. Need discipline at all times. Tupou for his kick and Amosa for not resisting the temptation of going for the line. Rennie should blast them for it and hopefully they become better players.

Haningan made a break due to a Moody placing his head the wrong way. He won a ruck penalty after giving away two in a row.

Last time they played at Eden Park the ABs beat the Wallabies 36-0.
This time they only beat them 27-7.

Points difference drops from 36 to 20.
We're getting there guys!!! At this rate Wobs should win in Eden Park around 2045.

Another positive

Rennie’s finding out early on, the fact that other Wallaby coaches don’t find out till later.
Australian backs don’t like to tackle.

Pretty disgraceful performance by several players there

If you’d played for the ABs like that, you’d never get picked again

Time to give some other guys a shot maybe.

Yep, that there are what, 4 or 5 more games against the AB's to go? They should be able to jag a couple.

But they did last week. Its 80% mental with these guys, Rennie has to be the coach to get them confidence. Uly=timately they need to string two back to back performances together, they never could under Cheika.

I've thought about and have only one. (I'm ignoring counterfactuals like 'I suppose it could have been 42-0.').

Ned Hanigan might just turn out to be a half-decent international-standard 6.

Yep, was noticeable how much more time the All Blacks were given to set their defensive line once Gordon came on, takes a second to long to release for what isn't exactly the quickest or most accurate of delivery. Went from running around us with quick ball to struggling to bend the line.

Gives away too many penalties.

What? Hannigan was at least solid. I remember one for in on the side, but he didn't give any mind-numbingly stupid penalties away.

It wasn't earth-shattering, but I would be surprised if he wasn't selected again on the back of that performance. Then again, I was surprised Samu got dropped, I thought he had a quiet but relatively good game.

He gave 2 Simmonsesque maul penalties in a row.

Positives?

We had good shape on attack.

Negatives?

Tackling was abysmal.
Most of the AB points came from stupid mistakes. A lost lineout on attack and an aimless kick. That's what pissed me off the most. It would have been a much tighter game had the Wallabies not made those mistakes. The AB tactic of waiting until the opponent makes a mistake only works if you make mistakes. Tighten them up and they look lost.

Spot on Thomas. 41 missed tackles loses you the game every time and that is fixable I reckon.

You got over the line twice more than the scorebaord shows - next time Mo'unga doesn't make that miracle save and the guy who missed the try just puts it it back to his team-mates. Also, remember that Savea ripped a turnover 1 metre out when we were looking very ragged. Next time those have a better result and we are in trouble.

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

What was the whole running the ball wide from the 2nd half kickoff deal, and then unlike the ABs who did similar, persisting with the tactic rather than clearing?
That looked premeditated..........and totally brainless.

Missed tackles hurt all blacks last week, hurt the wallabies this week. They just create too much momentum.
That savea turnover was pretty dubious as well.

This was by no means a belting and test three I think these wallabies will be out for revenge.

Positives for the wallabies: Wilson at 8, there are a number of other young guys who should kick on and mean they have a mixture of mongrel and skill for 2023.

They were a couple mistakes away from having a chance at breaking the eden Park hoodoo.

- Matt Philip has played really well both games
- second front row looked good at scrum and forced penalties
- obvious errors have an obvious areas of focus
- heading back home - overall positive view of the Wallabies, what they did in NZ, and the future looks brighter - they have closed the gap to the ABs (albeit an amount of that is the ABs worsening)
- Rennie is setting the tone for a no excuse, take accountability culture

I'll be honest, i'm not really a fan :-)

That Savea turnover really pissed me off. Gardner was letting everything go at the ruck and players were coming in from the sides all day.

Was very happy that Petaia survived without injury. The kid is a talent and that bump off of Mo'unga was delicious.

My wife watches very little rugby. These are a few takeaway comments:

Stop giving them the ball!

Who is the NZ player who keeps screaming like a girl?

The huge NZ winger has the face of a 12 year old on the body of a sasquatch.

That BJ Banana bloke is the most annoying rugby player I've ever seen.

Someone shoot that Fijian winger.

Can they just keep giving the ball to this Jordan kid?

As I said in the game thread, some Cheika hang ups seem to come in under pressure, they will have to watch that.

You need a machine gun if you don't specify which Aussie Fijian winger to shoot.
