SANZAAR confirms RC for next decade

Post by Jensrsa »

SANZAAR has confirmed that Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are committed to the Rugby Championship for the next decade.

In light of the dramatic changes in the sporting landscape following the global pandemic and its ongoing influence SANZAAR has revised the strategic plan that was adopted in 2018 to provide a new direction for rugby and the joint-venture organisation. The southern hemisphere rugby powers have recognised the need for change in these difficult times and have committed to an international rugby future through to 2030 that includes a restructuring of the SANZAAR entity, a brand refresh, new development initiatives and a restructuring of domestic club/provincial tournament structures.

The Rugby Championship will continue to be the flagship of southern hemisphere rugby for the next decade and as in the past will be the key driver and pathway for the Unions' continued success at the highest levels of the game including the Rugby World Cup. The joint-venture members Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are committed to the Championship and to its continued evolution where future growth and expansion form part of a revised 10-year plan.

The Championship will be restructured to include a 12-match format with teams playing each other on a home or away basis through the new mini-tour match schedule that was adopted in 2019. The announcement today is the first part of a phased progression process within SANZAAR.

“The re-commitment by the four Unions to the long term future of the international game is an important start as we embark in a new direction for both the Unions and the organisation over the coming years," said SANZAR CEO Andy Marinos.

“This is the first of a number of announcements that will be made over the coming weeks and months as we continue to plan into 2021 and beyond. The disruption during 2020 has been significant, however, despite the numerous setbacks and the inherent complexity of our vast geographical expanse, we have managed to keep the game alive and look forward to the remainder of the revised Tri Nations to bring the curtain down on the 2020 season."

"There are some exciting times ahead for rugby in the southern hemisphere as we look to reposition our structure, competitions and future direction as an organisation," Marinos added.

Who would trust anything that the SARU commit to? They've shown themselves to be a pack of liars. Besides, their country will likely still be plague infested by next year.

Not that I trust them, but tbh having the RC without seeing the SA players in Supe might add a fair amount of interest.

This still won't stop the constant claims that South Africa are going to join the 6N's even though we don't want them and never have.

So Aus and NZ come out swinging after we had to withdraw from TRC 2020 due to Covid, SARU get quoted in the media about contracts and 6 Nations and the next thing NZ and AUS rush to get our name on the contract. This after a few posters said we were going to be sued into oblivion.

Tell me, why get a decade long contract with a country that you want to sue, I'm struggling wrapping my head around that one. It seems that a few posters thought that their bargaining position in SANZAAR was way stronger than it actually is.

Humble pie boys, enjoy it.

Sounds like it has finally sunk in that SA are not wanted in 6N and unless they want to set up an African nations cup then RC is their only option.

Big question is can they be trusted to see out the contract.

Ah, the old you need us more than we need you argument. The reality is that the 6N don't want you. The SARU have nowhere else to go but stay in the RC. Obviously your fake TV money didn't impress them?

Well I hope this is true, it's a great competition and the Boks in the 6N would just be...weird.

'nowhere else to go', you got it wrong.
There are old school tours B + I Lions.
There are November internationals.
There are test matches against who wants to play.
There are rugby friends such as the Argies that will play the Springboks.

If we screwed you so badly like you've been saying for weeks, why sign a 10 year contract with us?

I imagine it’s to mess with your minds.
Or because the NZRU is going to lose 40m next year.
Or because RA are broke and can’t borrow any more from WR and have a tv deal shaping up
