He’s the dream hooker, the skills of a back but still a complete plum.

Yes, but enough about Fitzy.

After those great battles between himself, Kearns & Uli Schmidt in the 90's, I thought he would have said one of them.

And no Cullen and Jonah on the right wing :?

Schmidt only played 1 test vs NZ.

Looked him up. His Wiki entry says he played 17 tests including 4 against the NZ Cavaliers :? , and 4 against Australia. I thought he was one of the best hookers I've seen. If not Fitz himself, I'd go for Schmidt or Keith Wood.

Fitzy didn't play for the Cavaliers though, and may not have even seen the games. Hardly surprising he didn't choose Schmidt, tbh.

Agree. It's challenging my memory, but Fitzy was one of the so-called 'Baby Blacks' wasn't he? I don't think many people saw those games, outside the old Republic!

Yep, he was a Baby Black. I never saw those Cavalier matches until like 10 years later on video.

Seems that rugby wasn't played before 1960 then. Perhaps he should relabel it the best he's seen.

He was born in 1963, FFS. It's hardly a big deal for players to limit their choices to who they actually saw play.

What a load of shit. Tries to make himself look unbiased by including some token English players. In reality there should be at least 3-4 South Africans. Gerber, Joost vdW, Bryan Habana was better than Jason Robinson.

I simply think it’s who is best in his mind that he’s seen play. Ask any international and you’ll get a few common anchors, but most will be wildly different.

It's bloody difficult picking an all time great 15. It's a bit like picking the greatest rock songs of all time. It gets harder every year as more great players emerge. If you picked that team 20 years ago half those players wouldn't be available. It's probably easier to pick the top five in each position. Being a player like Fitzy you'd think he could pick a team based on players he played with or against.

Maa Nonu is an interesting choice. Once upon a time nobody would have been ahead of Tim Horan in my team. Hmm 🤔

As CI said, probably chosen for his UK audience hence the lack of Wallabies and Boks.

As talented as he was I’d put Nobody at Lock and keep Horan at inside center.

Uli Scmidt scored tries link below against Sean Fitzpatrick's Blues. Super10 Final 1993. Uli Schmidt then at the end of his career 33 yrd old. Transvaal.beat Auckland 20-17. Uli Schmidt's tries at 08:40 and 18;10. Didn't watch the whole video if there were more. Some of SF greatest of All time team playing

Maybe he prefers a guy he's seen play 50 times to a guy he's seen play about 3 times?

he failed the exam twice and passed it a third time. First with Auckland '93 in the Super10 final against Francois Pienaar's Transvaal while the hit 'Uli Boelie translated as Uli the Bully' was being played in the Top20 hit parade. Then again in '95 in full view of 12.8 million people against Francois Pienaar and Nelson Mandela's Springboks while the hit 'hie kommie bokke translated as here comes the Springboks' was being played in the Top20 hit parade.

Its a bit like the schoolground bully let his victim run away or little Jimmy telling his grand kids how he ebentually swerved past Bakkies Botha or Sam Cane telling his how he eventually managed to ankle tap Etzebeth
