Avi to mkv

Post by Cartman »

Does anyone know how to convert avi files to mkv without messing with the quality or audio/video sync?
I've tried it before and didn't get it right, now friend is asking again.
Thanks!

Long time since I did it but isn't handbrake the main one for doing it? I remember it being relatively straight forward

Definitely handbrake - its a fully featured free program

I'm pretty sure the others on DeDocs list only have limited free versions (either limited video length or watermarks or both). Handbrake just does it all for you.

Having said that, while syncing shouldn't be a problem, any time you re-encode a video you are going to lose quality.

Back in the day I used to use the imaginatively named "avi file converter"
