If a wicket goes there could be a clump but while this lasts it is entertaining from India. If these two are there at lunch and get this below 200, it will give Australia something to think about. Australia remain overwhelming favourites at the moment though.

There would be quite an irony if the keeper in for his batting and criticised for his keeping gets India close thanks to missed chances from the keeper criticised for his batting but praised for his keeping.

The required run rate is 3.31 and India are going at 2.98. Start of the day I thought a draw would be a fair result, the way Pant has been batting though, India could steal this.

It won't even be close. This is a nice, little partnership but I expect Australia will still win by over 100 runs.

Yeah, you don't score 400 runs in the 4th innings, especially not at the SCG.

I think the highest successful run chase at the SCG is about 288

They are certainly having a good crack at it.

You do get the feeling that if they get 1 of these guys the floodgates will open.

Are the Aussies throwing this because they don’t want to face the Black Crappers at Lords?

Love this comment on Cricinfo
Rishabh Pant is on 97, and batting with the insouciance of a man who has five centuries in a row and is batting on 32.

I know that conventional wisdom is that it's very hard to make big scores in the 4th innings but I think India are a big chance here. Only need 150 more runs in 51 overs.

New ball is due in a couple of overs. If Aus don't make a breakthrough then it will be VERY hard to win this.

I'm still liking the draw

Peak Straya
Australia are getting desperate in their quest for victory in the Sydney Test against India and the proof of that came in the unsportsmanlike behaviour of former captain Steve Smith on Day 5.

An incident came to light on Monday when Steve Smith was caught on the stump camera scuffing up the batsman's guard on purpose during the drinks break in the first session.

Rishabh Pant, who came on strike after the break, had to mark out his guard all over again.

Smith's action prompted angry reactions on social media with even the Australian fans slamming the national team for their negative tactics against India. Smith's face isn't visible in the video but fans recognised him by his jersey no. 49.

Some people even drew comparisons with the 2018 Cape Town Test sandpapergate scandal in which Smith was banished from captaincy and banned for two years along with David Warner.

I said yesterday that if Pujara managed to bat for 4 sessions and grind out a century, the other guys could get the runs at the other end. Seems to be looking likely at this point.

Or perhaps not.

[Tim] Paine has been fined 15% of his match fee for showing dissent at the umpire’s decision following a failed review during the third day of the third test against India in Sydney. The Australia captain was found to have breached article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct - which relates to showing dissent during an international match - and one demerit point was added to his disciplinary record.
No similar penalty for Pujara, predictably.

It’s a tricky one, the fact that they allow a decision to be challenged is in itself allowing initial “dissent”. Paine’s was after the final decision vs. Pujara’s being before. He definitely didn’t look happy with the call but I wonder, rightly or wrongly, whether the stage of the process came into it and whether the reaction was believed to be directed towards the umpire.

Just why? Smith blubbed a torrent of tears about setting a better example to reach his redemption following Sandpapergate. Then he does this. They are programmed bad...
