17 cases  ffs.

In other words, it's almost non-existent there.

In the middle of summer.

I'm pretty sure Sydney is not "fvcked".

The NSW Health Minister has begged residents of Sydney's Northern Beaches to stay home for 3 days. I expect freedom protests to kick off shortly.

NSW Health Minister implores northern beaches residents to stay at home

The source of the infections is not known but NSW Health authorities are highly suspicious that it is someone who has flown in from overseas.

NSW Health minister Brad Hazzard implored people on the northern beaches to stay at home.

“We need as many people on the beaches to stay put and give us time to sort this out and stay put,” Mr Hazzard said.

“The number of cases in one day is a sobering reminder of what this virus can do,” he said.

“Our particular concern is to make sure residents of the northern beaches don’t run the risk of seeding other areas across sydney in their normal daily travels,” he said.

“We also need them to as far as possible stay at home, try and restrict to normal family groups and get tested if you have any symptoms whatsoever,” he said.

Some cases detected today were in people who had very mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, Mr Hazzard said.

“Don’t hesitate. Get out and get tested with the slightest possible symptoms. Even if you’re feeling just a bit tired,” he said.

His personal advice to residents was to wear a mask.

“Seventeen cases is an indicator that we have an issue we have to resolve. We need a little time and we need the help we usually get from residents on the beaches. That involves not leaving the beaches if you can humanly stay on the beaches and preferably stay at home,” he said.

It still hardly counts as "fvcked". Yesterday in Sweden it was about 15,000 and we're not "fvcked".

That much said, I guess it also did also dwindle off towards nothingness even in Sweden during the summer months, so much so that people thought we'd beaten it (there's maybe a lesson there). That's the thing I'm more surprised about, if it's going to come back in Sydney (and I think it will, without a vaccine), I would have thought it would be in the winter, not the middle of summer.

Anyway, fingers crossed that this is not big deal and they'll mop it up quickly.

No, no. There's zero evidence restriction of movement and mask wearing reduces transmission of Coronavirus.

Not from Shanky AC. He'll be up early, do a full day's worth of capitalism on line/zoom and make a few thousand quid, and then settle down in front of his 98 inch wall screen to watch the cricket*. He's laying in some nice wines to accompany the lunch the help efficiently assembled today...

I predict that on Saturday morning, Gladys Bererofbadtidings will hold a presser in the carpark between BoB's dildo & fleshlight shop and the 'landscaping supplies' depot Shanky uses to launder his off-shore revenue. It will be must-watch TV.

Is this due to all the rain that's sending people indoors?

Where?
North East NSW from Port Macquarie up to Byron Bay and across into Queensland.

I believe La Nina is strengthening which will bring increased onshore tropical moisture to the east coast of Australia.

My theory is that if there is an increase in wet days, that will drive people indoors which could increase the risk of Covid transmission.

Now if it doesn't rain much over the next 3 months, people are more likely to be outdoors and the spread of transmission is less likely

OK, but factor in temp. We are having a chilly winter week in Sydney - its 24C as I type at past midnight.

There is a lockdown on the Sydney Northern beaches, which came out of an over seas arrival, not from a known community transfer. Have to ask, if you had only 20 infections over two days, how would that be reported?
