Sort of. It's worth considering - but i do wonder if the level of risk would be significantly lower than today (centralised detention centres etc).

Also - BTW - private security firms manage other Australian detention centres today e.g. Serco.

You are right, they do. However, the issue with Vic was that the contract was sub contracted multiple times. At least that wont happen in detention facilities and the guards will be seasoned and experienced.

I'm guessing Sydney takes a lot of initial landings, but the passengers hit the transit bus to domestic and get on another plane. Or used to before the border closures. So in effect that was done, and they could fill the charter at LHR/LGW or SFO without an extra layer of frigging around.

But, but, the children. Detention centres are inhumane, you know.

Fair enough too. Consider how many parents would use masks as an excuse to take home kids that aren't theirs in the hope that they'll be less bratty.

SYD airport would be gagging for that action - Freight and private jets are not cutting it at present.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard has harshly rebuked QLD's idea to house overseas returnees being quarantined in regional camps. He says that NSW will always house these people in inner-Sydney locations and then goes in to chastise all the other states for the low numbers that they are currently processing, and boast about NSW's numbers.

Why do NSW politicians feel compelled to constantly attack the other states? They fuel tensions at every single press conference.

Quarantining in rural areas simply transfers the risk of infection to those rural communities, often without the aid of sophisticated health infrastructure and specialisms to cope with an outbreak.

Why do you hate rural people so much? Why do you gleefully wish misfortune upon them?

Siege mentality. All the other states seem to be very anti NSW, despite the fact that our health dept has proven to be the best in Australia. If this outbreak had happened in Victoria people would be attaching bulldozer blades to their Ford Falcon interceptors by now.

What happened was that the Federal govt has deliberately and consistently fanned the flames of tension between the states, for political advantage. Deliberately elevating NSW above the other states, and attacking the ALP states of Vic, ALD and WA. It's been a tactic that Morrison has used expertly.

0 new cases in NSW overnight. That's great news.

Is anyone else watching Berejiklian's press conference? Can someone please explain to me why she has chosen to spend the majority of this press conference trolling the 'other states' (ie. QLD, Vic and WA)? She knows how badly this comes across to citizens who live in these states, yeah? Is she trying to start a civil war?

1. Why would she care? She cares about nsw votes.
2. Hopefully. We'd knock your dicks in the dirt. I can wait until we tear down the Wally Lewis statue down in front of Suncorp. Will be like the fall of bagdad. Then we can put you Queenslanders in re-education camps that teach you how to wear shoes.

Pfft...why? We're used to it. Whether they consciously know it or not a thread such as this is only highlighting the level of envy those dwelling in the lesser states and territories feel. They wish they were important enough to troll. The only one with a shout is Victoria. Even then. It hard to match up to the original and the best. As for the rest. Well, to paraphrase former PM Paul Keating. They're just camping.

Very deft work by St Gladys today - asked the community to think about, and employers to think about, whether they support restrictions on entry to workplace premises (which include hospitality & child care, and most everywhere else) based on vaccination status. I expect that she'll get widespread community support and it'll become a non issue. The complaints of the anti-vaxx nutters will fall on deaf ears.

I wonder if Dictator Dan will invite a public discourse, or will just autocratically decide which way to go on this.
