Unless your system of measurement excludes the possibility of anyone dying.
They didn’t hand the keys to the country over to the zero covid zealots. Brexit and Boris obviously had an impact there. Reading the Australian threads it’s interesting that there are a lot of parallels with Ireland. We were lucky in a way to have the U.K. take a riskier approach, it put pressure on our public healthy agency to stop being so pro zero covid. At the end of the day, the U.K. suffered a relatively large number of covid associated deaths but they got their vaccination programme rolled out quickly and Boris has been given the credit for getting the country open, people were quick to forgive the death toll. At the end of the day, life has to go on.
Well, except for all those that died and will die of covid of course...
Exactly. And the people who will suffer for years with long covid and damaged lungs, etc.
Its not really life will go on.

Cheap shot though really, isn’t it?

Public health is about the greatest good for the greatest number. Not about trying to occupy the moral high ground

Have any country’s implemented that or are they all still updated on worldometer daily?

Is that suggestion even possible?

I think it would still be reported, but not a daily press conference and dog and pony show we currently have.

It’s funny watching zero covid zealots cling to long covid to prolong this overreaction. Long covid is massively overstated in the media. For most people it is a mild post viral syndrome, certainly not a significant public health issue and most certainly not something that justifies widespread restrictions on society. You are quite insane.

This won't ever be under control. Sydney is going to be the Australian guinea pig of "Let it rip and let's live with the virus"

The only thing that's going to help is vaccination.

If you're lucky. We had 5 months of lockdowns, I can see you having the same. Especially when there are 100 people out in the community, you've been in 'lockdown' for 4-5 weeks already and people just aren't playing ball.

Stay inside, stay safe, and you might be able to have a "normal" Christmas.

I'd predicted August, then September - it's clear we're not getting to single digits until we get to single digits.

It might be worth the Feds diverting all stock to NSW now to kill it off before another infection starts - it's clear we're patient Zero for the other outbreaks

14 long days ago the "infectious in the community" number was 53, today it was 50+ that figure hasn't waivered a clear sign that lockdown is not working.

October? To get back to zero cases I honestly think it won't happen this year unless drastic changes to lockdown and keeping people at home are made. 80% vaccination targets won't be met by Xmas.

It's pathetically weak - outside of the Western LGAs you are free to go wherever you want - the 10/5K thing is not being enforced from what I can see.

Walking the dog (as my alloted 1hr of exercise) it's really frustrating seeing hordes of people walking in large groups - it's supposed to be 2 max). Personal Trainers are working unmasked with clients everywhere.

It's really no surprise why it's spreading

Are people clueless or selfish?

I mean, I know we've got an outbreak here in SEQ but it really does feel like everyone is f**king ON IT. Like they know it's short term pain for gain. I'm honestly confident that we'll be out of lockdown in a week.

This could come back to chew my arse but that's the vibe I'm getting.

That is not what is happening over my way - it's very quiet out, traffic is pretty minimal. All the non-food/drink/consumables shops are shut for the duration. I have a click & collect later today, so I'll see how Friday afternoon looks, but it seems like we have more law abiding citizens in this locale. We also have the biggest vaccination % rate in the state, or did a few days ago. These things may be connected.

I mean, I know we've got an outbreak here in SEQ but it really does feel like everyone is f**king ON IT. Like they know it's short term pain for gain. I'm honestly confident that we'll be out of lockdown in a week.

I'll probably get flack here but it's predominantly the people with kids......and I am in the poshest part of the inner west
