6N Support Group

Post by Jim Lahey »

Since its unlikely to happen at this stage, I feel that the bored needs to come together in solidarity during these dark days.

List your first 5/6N memory, your happiest memory, your worst memory, your biggest “haha that’ll fukken teach you bastards” memory, and your most empathetic (feeling happy for another team) memory.

First memory - Ireland getting tanked by England at Twickers in the late 90s

Happiest memory - Stephen Jones (and not Henson) stepping up and missing that last min penalty in 2009

Worst memory - Clerc’s try

That will fukken teach you bastards memory - England Foot And Mouth game 2000

Empathetic memory - I can’t think of any. I hate you all (that’s why the 6N is simply the best tournament in the world).

That Foot and Mouth game was 2001.
My favourite "fudge you" moment was Rory Kockott in 2015 when France prevented England getting a late try to grab the 6N on points difference. Never seen a player so happy after his team conceded 55 points

I don’t suppose we could have a ‘Triple Crown’ thing instead now the French have raised the white flag?

They’ve scrapped the Heino, they’ll bin off the 6N next. We may get a domestic tournament instead?

Feb 1979 my first 5N rugby game at Landsdowne Road.

Got the 07.00 train up down to Belfast with a mega carryout, onto the Dublin train , crawled round Dublin, watched the game, more carryout and into my home pub for 10.30.

I don't think I got out of bed until school on Monday

I believe we were playing England, and may have actually won for the first time in aeons.

Most vivid memory is 1991 grand slam, watched the game in Paris pub full of French, kept it quite until Underwood went over, was bailed out of a kicking by an American Mafia Lawyer some evening though for a bright eyed youngster.

Happiest memory : 2009 slam beating Wales in their back yard

Worst memory: Vincent Clerc try 2007 in Croke Park

That will teach you bastards: thrashing Wales 28-3 (I think) in 2014

Empathetic memory: edit. Scott Gibbs try in Wembley 1999

First memory. Kiernans drop goal.
Happiest memory: being in Lansdowne when Wally scored a try against Scotland and we won our first Triple Crown since Cromwell.
Worst memory: Vs England and The red carpet game, we got smashed and I was in the wrong part of the ground.
That'll teach you,: v England in Twickers after they won the RWC.
Emphatic Memory: Rogs drop goal in 09.

Empathetic, read it as emphatic, so thats staying there anyway. But, Hensons long range penalty, was in Rome for the Irish game and you'd swear Ireland had just won with that penalty, place went mad.

First memory - Ireland getting beaten by England in 1980, start of Bill Beaumont's Grand Slam
Happiest memory - Bowe Gathers! Bowe Gathers! Bowe Gathers! (I was in the shitter trying not to cry when Stephen Jones missed his kick at goal, so can't claim that moment   )
Worst memory - Vincent Clerc
That will teach you - Wales losing to Italy when the Ref said there was time to kick to the corner, then changed his mind and blew the final whistle
Empathetic memory - Any time Italy win.
Most Memorable Game: The 38 all mind-f*ck Calcutta Cup match at Twickenham a couple of years ago.

I thought you were nearly as old as me. My first memory was actually sparked by somebody asking it on here before and I thought it was a match that was really muddy but then I thought of another one when it was Wales against I think Scotland, could have been France or Ireland, and there is snow and it looked cold. I was very young. I then went to a match in 1982 when 7 in Lansdowne against Scotland and the rest is history.
Worst: red carpet game and recently Itoje making the whole nation his play thing. Repeatedly.
Happiest: 1985, I was too young to get euphoric in 1982,and Probably BOD in Paris. We were still a bit shit then and it could be like that for a while again

First memory was my old man buying us sweets and pop for "international parties" to shut us up so he could watch the game. Then going to the odd match with him and my bro or through school. 5 nations amateur days were best days.

I have lasting memories of him apparently wandering casually around the pitch in LR. He certainly wasn't one for doing much work, or even catching the ball. He was the definition of a quarterback outhalf.

He was a natural footballer - ManU tried to sign him at one stage- but like many OHs at the time didn't know what a tackle was. Knew how to direct a pack around a pitch though, until the lunches got too much.

For games I attended

First: Wales - France 1992
Happiest: watching Ieuan Evans skin underwood for the win 93.
Worst: One of the losses to Scotland or Ireland in the 90's/early 2000's probably.

Happiest memory - 2005 grand slam (it was a long wait)
Worst memory - the 90's (just about all of it)
That will teach you - 2010, that game
Empathetic memory - 2008 v's France (our perfect 6N)

First memory - Geoghegan crossing to win it for us in 94.

Happiest memory - in a rammed Old Shillelagh on FT in 09. Fitting that my happiest is someone else fxcking things up.

Worst memory - England taking us to bloody pieces in 03. By end of second half every tryscorer had a broad grin on their faces, especially Luger.

That will fukken teach you bastards memory - England in 06. Again in a rammed Alexandra with about 4 of ours and 50+ England supporters all belching Swing Low when they went ahead at 24-21. Sweet as life.

Empathetic memory - Italy rubbing our noses in the Flaminio turf. Once I'd gotten over how low we'd sunk it was their grand day out.

Insert your fist into the TV screen moment:

Scotland beat us in 2013 in Murrayfield. ROG in his own 22 or just outside it, tries a really stupid grubber across the field like completely flat 90 degrees to direction of play intercepted by the Scots.

Scotland beat us in 2013 in Murrayfield. ROG in his own 22 or just outside it, tries a really stupid grubber across the field like completely flat 90 degrees to direct of play intercepted by the Scots.
