What's the point at which we can expect to see the infections/hospitalisations start to noticeably go down? Because that's surely going to be the thing that drives the lockdowns ending or continuing.iarmhiman wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 1:09 amWe're still going too slow.Trostan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 12:19 am 1.51.5Catching up. 2nd in EU now for vaccines. 40k this week. Cases will still be high until we get 60-70% vaccinated. I feel it will be September . The virus will naturally decrease as the warmer summer months come and the UV light increases. It's around then they need to get the remainder vaccinated. Then when the autumn comes back we're ready for flu and covid season

Definitely. As of today, Israel is top up at 25 and they're reporting ~50% reduction in infection rates. That could buy them months less lockdown-type conditions. The UK is at 5 right now and that's too low to show any appreciable effect in infection rates discernible from 'wave cycle' variations. Go hard and fast to save lives, then settle for a ratio growth rate that tails off later on. The EU numbers are poor IMHO.iarmhiman wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 1:09 amWe're still going too slow.Trostan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 12:19 am 1.51.5Catching up. 2nd in EU now for vaccines. 40k this week. Also, the conventional wisdom on here seems to be hit the vulnerable/aged and front liners first. But isn't there a sweet-spot to be had by also getting early doses into the 'vector part' of the population? The former is a back-foot, reactive strategy, the latter a proactive strategy. I would like to think these government modellers are working this through...
Reduction in infection rates is nothing if you don't protect the vulnerable, they will still die, just later than they would have? It is a pro-active strategy to reduce death and strin on the NHS.mabunch78 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 2:15 amDefinitely. I don't understand this choice because those at risk of hospitalisation and death are a much smaller percentage of the population. You cannot tell a vector by looking at them - so you're talking about vaccinating the majority first.message wrote:Apparently Indonesia are going for the "vector" part - to get people back to work, you'd assume.
