Record support for Welsh independence

Post by MrDominator »

Surely they won't beat the Scots and Northern Irish to the punch?
A poll suggesting that backing for independence among Welsh citizens is at a record high should serve as a warning for the UK government and prompt it to work harder at its relationship with the devolved nations, supporters of the union have said.

Just under 40% of Welsh people polled who expressed an opinion said they would vote for independence, citing feelings that their country has different social attitudes to the UK as a whole and unhappiness at Westminster’s response to the Covid pandemic.

unhappiness at Westminster’s response to the Covid pandemic.
It’s odd that they don’t realise this is already a competence for their own Government....

It’s actually the right question, because of how power is made it would suit more right wing English for this To happen.

Thing is I’m not sure most English would give much of a shit.

I do not think we give it much thought TBH.

We are fairly cosmopolitan, and easy going.

I'd worry for the Welsh if they left.

It'd be like watching your weedy, immature, slightly retarded 16 year old brother leave home to make his fortune in the Big Smoke.

You just know it wouldn't end well.

I've always said that the Parliament for the EU-affiliated Celtonia (Wales, Scotland, the wee North and the RoI) will be in Ramsey, due to tax dodges for the MEPs.
At least it will simplify the Union Jack.

There's nothing unifying for young people with regards to the UK which is viewed mostly as a bad thing in terms of education which is often little more than secessionist propaganda. Without an existential threat there's now little reason beyond base economics to persist with the Union and as we learned with Brexit self determination isn't about the money.

Ultimately England will persist with its institutions intact and simply continue as before regardless of who decides to leave.

We're the alpha dogs of these islands whether the Celts choose to be inside or outside the UK.

We'd be considerably richer without them, frankly.

There is no terrorism in The Republic.
We are one of the safest nations in the world.
Terrorism in Ireland is based in the United Kingdom part,
A failure perpetuated by your government, which is consolidating the problem again over the last few days, by reneging on international agreements and raising false hopes in the loyalist population

Franky I don't blame them for wanting to be independent in this day and age. England is far too dominant a partner and splitting it into competing regions would be hugely detrimental. Just look at the trouble we have created for ourselves with City Mayors who are happy to sow division.

I would say that the rise of independence movements in Scotland and Wales shows the failure of the UK government over the last decade. 10 years ago I would have laughed at such high numbers for both independence movements and assumed you were joking. Post olympics I would have said the UK was in a pretty good place. What a mess the last 9 years have been and what a sadly (by age and region) divided country we have become. Tories can't take all the credit as Jeremy Corbyn certainly helped.

be accurate, we were bailed out for many billions by the EU

I distinctly remember a few years ago a thread on global finances and DAC posting up a link to the BBC which had an interactive chart showing how much money countries in the EU have lent to each other over the years. He quickly removed it as it showed Ireland had actually lended the UK more. Very funny.
