But with people not able to get home, why can others come and go. I tend to think if you come back to Australia, and then decide to leave, you need to go to the end of the queue.
I understand it’s supply and demand. My post was that I don’t like that. This isn’t normal times. Alitalia’s needs to take a back seat to humanity right now. Well IMO.
Australia hasn’t been a prison for over 100 years. If Alitalia’s needs are to take a back seat, does that mean the government is going to nationalise them or do they just expected to run at a massive loss because Australia’s own airline parked their fleet up?

Airlines are foreign owned entities and operate within our laws, but for their own profit. If it wasn’t for business class we probably wouldn’t have such affordable air travel in good times and probably wouldn’t have any at all in times like these. The rich people, paying lots more for a little bit extra, are a good thing for all of us.
I have no issue of people coming and going. It’s just I think if there are 30k people who can’t get home, and we have locked our border, then we need to make sure not just the rich can come and go.
I also understand your point on business class funding everyone else. And that airlines are commercial. But we have screwed the airlines already by severely limiting numbers. Airlines get notice of how many spots are open. That might mean there are only 6 spots. Even 6 first class tickets are loss making.

So am I but that's beside the point.

It's not grudge-holding. You'd just think the usual suspects, of which Thomas is certainly one of the more prominent, would think before gleefully belly-flopping onto the PR pile-ons regardless of what is actually being said or whether they've put any real thought into it themselves. I think the last one was suggesting that the vaccines were rushed, followed by about ten pages of name-calling and childish nonsense. Followed by a bunch of vaccines being withdrawn among safety concerns.

In this thread what I'm saying is simply 100% reasonable and rational: The Australian government barring entry -- and making it an imprison-able offence -- for Australian citizens in desperate need to return home to Australia is disgraceful.

The Liberals can apparently afford to drop (b?)millions on submarines and jet fighters, the need for which is extremely dubious. And apparently everything in Australia is rosy-as-can-be due to the overwhelming success of their strategy. Considering these things, then the Australian government should be reaching out to Australians in need, not hanging them out to dry and/or treating to imprison them. This kind of policy is nothing to be proud about, it's gross.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if that is widely acknowledged as a disgraceful policy, even possibly in the not-to-distant future. Will anyone here admit they were wrong if that happens?

I think most of us agree it’s a shit policy.
That wasn’t what you were saying. You stated Covid was not serious and because you only got a headache it’s not much of a risk.
You then make statements that it’s closer to the common cold but Australians treat it like the Black Death.
That is fundamentally wrong. You downplay the risks of the virus and you are rightly called out for it.
This is serious. It kills somewhere between 0.5% and 1% of those that get it. It’s also incredibly infectious.
You aren’t at much risk. Neither am I.
My step mother is (she is 75). So is my grandma (she is 98). These people matter to me. Let’s not belittle the virus.

I have a mate in the states, his wife and mother of two teenagers got it and she died last week, she was 46 and healthy
Mog is a walking, talking bag of shit. He's only a few more hours of listening to Rogan away from having a full meltdown.

My good family friend is a doctor in Michigan who runs an ICU in a small regional hospital. Since early last year all he has been doing is choosing who lives and dies. 14-16 hour days starting with him going over the charts deciding who they can treat and who they can't. Then he organises video link ups for family members so they can say their last goodbyes.

That's all he's been doing for a year.

But Mog got a headache. Lucky Mog.

Wow, how has this hospital where people don’t get treated not made the news ?
Did you want to know which hospital it was or are you just being you usual dickhead self?

Anyway, here's a very public post my mate made late last year. Bear in mind for a few months last year he wore a wood working mask because the hospital ran out of hospital grade face masks for nurses and doctors.
So now the election is over and it looks like western civilization might survive for a little while, can we all please get back to panicking about the pandemic?
I’m too tired to write this post eloquently, so I’m just going to blurt it out.

I work in a small rural hospital in West Michigan. I look after 8 ICU beds and 24 general medicine beds. We could expand to another 8 if we had more nurses. Typically we have two docs, two or three Family Medicine (GP) residents, and a Nurse Practitioner or PA. We have a good ER, OR, Birth center, some cardiologists and a few other things. No dialysis. So Bundaberg or Burnie if you’re in Australia.

I just finished my 7th 12 hour day. It should have been my last, but I’m going in tomorrow because we’re too busy. COVID is killing us and our community. About half of our inpatients have COVID. Some have been there 3 weeks. Three of them had massive PEs. One had a tension pneumothorax. We’re running out of machines to supply oxygen (HFNC). Not ventilators, but other machines that keep patients off ventilators.

I have telephone discussions with family members about when to withdraw treatment or not. Discussions that should be in person, at the bedside.

We all spend all day donning and doffing PPE. I do it once or twice per patient. The nurses do it endlessly, so do the cleaners. We all ran to a code blue and had to stop at the door to find N95s because our’s were back on the ward. We reuse extensively.

The treatment for COVID is fairly simple to prescribe. It’s a lot of work for the nurses. And then just the endless waiting for improvements. 80% oxygen (FiO2) for days and days with no changes. Trying not to miss complications. Worrying about nutrition. You cant eat on BiPAP.

The striking feature of the patients is the despair. Despair and boredom. They just lie there all day, struggling to breathe, for 5, 11, 19 days. I can see the desperation and loneliness, but we’re all suited up and want to leave as soon as possible. We have video baby monitors to watch them from outside. Alone.

And here’s the bad news. The last two weeks were the worst by far, and they are just the beginning. The projections here are for exponential growth, this week. We skipped the New York or Italy style disasters. But since then the community has used up a lot of their patience. The media has lost interest. People sacrificed a lot and are wondering if it helped. And despite the election, entering into what will be the most critical part of the pandemic, we still have a narcissistic sociopathic loser in charge, and he couldn’t pour water out of his boots if the instructions were on the soles.
It’s late, I’m tired, and I’m going back tomorrow for more.
Wear a mask.

As I said earlier, almost to a man the entire Aussie contingent is critical of Morrison and the current government. Personally, they are an utter bunch of wit kant. But this move to cancel flights from India obviously makes perfect sense. It's only a temporary measure and flights will reopen once India gets shit under control.

No, you're talking shit. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume you just haven't read that thread as opposed to being intentionally dishonest. I'll clear it up for you:

The headache comment was only to try and put things in a little bit more realistic perspective*. Anyway, I have acknowledged even in this very thread that covid is serious and serious measures are required. Obviously I wouldn't want my elderly parents to catch it either, but we're still not dealing with the zombie apocolypse here. Both things can be true at the same time.

The point I am making, shouted down by the easily-triggered mob, is only that although there is risk involved with covid, there is not so much we should be threatening to imprison Australian citizens for returning home to Australia. It's a disgraceful policy. The response ought to be in proportion to the risk. And considering everything is allegedly peachy in the land of Oz, then the nation is in a great position to help. "I want to drink beer at the rugby and watch little league games and won't tolerate even the tinniest threat to that, Australians stranded overseas in desperate circumstances can all get f-cked" is just plain selfish.

Now I've made it clear I hope you will not continue with the cherry-picking straw-man arguments.

*I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I thought it was amusing to watch the predictable hysterically triggered and outraged response, and that was part of the reason for posting it.

Good for him.

Stop exaggerating stuf.
God you're such a tedious cunt.

I certainly don’t pretend to be entertaining or funny.
Quite the opposite. You're a terrible person. A genuine 100% shitcunt excuse for a man. Possibly one of the worst people on this board and a reason why a lot of people don't come stay here.

You're message board herpes.

 , nothing like the passion of a convert.....

You think people have forgotten the revolting stories you’ve told of your younger years, and then behold the “woke Thomas “ appeared .

Certainly some joke there,

Hey, we all grow as a person. Except you. You've always been horrible.

I feel sorry for anyone who has the misfortune of interacting with you in real life.

So horrible that you interacted for years with me and had no issues, but that’s just your level of current memory loss,

I’ve never done anything as horrific as you’ve presented here once in life, let alone the amount of “incidents” you’ve tried to present as funny rather than like a shit Aussie version of train spotting.

But hey, you’re all “woke” now m presenting the persona you’ve decided will erase what a person you were.

I feel sorry for all the people in your life you’ve currently fooled into believing the new you, they’ll be let down eventually.

Farva wrote: ↑Sat May 01, 2021 12:12 pm Labelling a country racist without any understanding of the issue just demonstrates you don’t have a clue.

Covid cases in hotel quarantine have skyrocketed. They are all coming from India. This is a huge risk to Australia. It is not a racist policy in any way. You are completely wrong here.

Whether it is a reasonable policy is a different story.

You being a dickhead is entirely accurate.
I do understand the issue.

I saw the reaction in Perth. A man who entered a quarantine facility was publicly shamed for going to get married for when it leaked out.

The ban on travellers from India is absolutely racist. The reaction of the WA Premier was dog whistling
Mr McGowan was scathing of the person who went to India for a wedding.

“It’s not OK,” he said.

“If you want to go overseas, it should be for only the most extraordinary of reasons at this point in time.

“Not to go overseas for a wedding. Even to go overseas for a funeral.

“We have to be a lot tougher in relation to letting people out of Australia at this point in time.”
A person went home for an essential reason, to get married. On return, WA’s Premier blamed this man for his own inept system.

This is all after there was a rise in racism directed towards Asian Australian’s last year because of Covid.
"It just happens it's China's turn again."

Earlier this year, the ABC was contacted by hundreds of people who shared their experiences of discrimination during the pandemic.

Asian Australians, particularly of Chinese heritage, reported an increase in abuse and racist attacks because the coronavirus was first detected in China.

The Premier knew what he was at. Indians are the next easy target.

When it comes to Australia and other countries during Covid, the behaviour towards certain nations is telling. Chinese and Japanese travellers were put on Christmas Island for a period. Travellers from India are called out by politicians and now travel is banned. There are some pathetic attempts here to weasel out of that.
The UK and US were also responsible for a greater share of overseas acquired cases in Australia at the height of their outbreaks, according to data released by the New South Wales health department.
In NSW, 41% of Covid-19 cases acquired overseas in December were from the United States.

...

NSW Health has released data on overseas acquired infections by source country since November. Examining the past five months, it can be seen that India, the UK and the US all had similar numbers of resident returns in the past year – 11,760 then 12,510 and 10,990 respectively.
But significantly more residents returned from the United Kingdom and the United States over the three months to January than from India.

The data from leading epidemiologists shows it as racist.
To be fair, he should be publicly shamed for not using a pandemic as an excuse to avoid getting married.

Hopefully someone will take these new rules to court to see if they are constitutional.

It's probably correct but also completely necessary due to the Feds Bungling of Covid from day 1.

The Vaccine Rollout is a shambles - I am not confident that overseas Australians are getting the support they need from the Consulates.

As for Racism? Sadly, it does still exist in bigger pockets that most of us would be comfortable with.
and you base this on what exactly? What is it that you expect that they can do?
It's not a personal attack - chill FFS

An action might take the form of an application for judicial review of a decisionmaker's discretionary exercise of a power under legislation. It might take the form of challenge to the constitutional validity of this or that provision of the legislation. Or both, conceivably.

However, to my (limited, layperson's) knowledge, one hurdle would be that the plaintiff would need to demonstrate legal 'standing', i.e. how a decision or provision of a law has, or is likely to have, a material effect on that person's rights or interests.

If so, a decisionmaker's power may need actually to be exercised, or a provision may need to have effect, before a court proceeds with the matter. As of right now, tho', I'm not sure either has happened, plus the Cwth might (for once) be telling the truth about this being a short-term measure only.

Litigious and rich fĂșckwits like Clive Palmer may be willing to mount - and risk losing - grossly expensive legal challenges over short-term measures, but for most folk this would be a real barrier.

A Betoota-native who gave up his dreams to play for the Queensland Bulls two years ago by signing on to play in the Indian Premier League is now wondering if he can still come home or if this new travel ban with the subcontinent only applies to Indian people but have an Australian passport.

“It’s a genuine noodle-scratcher,” said Francis Dollarhyde, a genuine all-rounder who’s currently on the bench at the Delhi Capitals.
The name!
