Another gold .

Fair to say things were briefly nervy here as the Poles looked strong but we had a real kick at the end.

Not just an Olympic best, but a world best time, apparently.

And pushes her equal top of the most medalled NZ athletes, with 2 more events to come. What a legend.

MOST OLYMPIC MEDALS WON BY NEW ZEALANDERS

5: Lisa Carrington (including 4 gold), Ian Ferguson (4 gold), Paul MacDonald (3 gold), Mark Todd (2 gold).

4: Valerie Adams (2 gold), Blyth Tait (1 gold).

3: Peter Snell (3 gold), Hamish Bond (3 gold), Simon Dickie (2 gold), Danyon Loader (2 gold), Mahe Drysdale (2 gold), Barbara Kendall (1 gold), Andrew Nicholson (0 gold).

On par with this effort from the Stuff live blog:
"Something interesting. Currently AUS is crushing the Olympics, however this is purely due to swimming, if you look at all sports excluding swimming, NZ is now sitting ahead of them with 5 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze, while AUS has 5 Gold, 1 Silver and 7 Bronze."
So we're beating them if you exclude all those medals they won, which don't count. I want to beat Australia as much as the next guy, but that's very much a 'if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle', situation.

Does anyone who follows more closely know what Carrington's chances are like in her other two events? Any medal and she'd become NZ's most decorated Olympic athlete.

I got the impression she's a shot in the k1500. She got a bronze in that in Rio. The other not so much.

Burling and Tuke in the final leg of the yachting and placed 3rd. Need to hold that position for a win but if GBR get ahead of Germany, they will win gold.

GBR now leading by a foreskin
