Oi! Hodge is the next Latho but one.

Mark N is the next Greg Martin. With all that entails.

It’s both correct and fair to note Nawaqanitawase’s abominable defence has much to do with Wainui’s third try. But why was it all up to him?

Did the ‘tahs, like the Reds, sack their defence coach because plagueausterity; or was there not one to begin with?

Faaark. Wainui has now scored four …

The defence coach is head co-coach Gilmore.

Cheika and Morgs did a run through of the Tahs defensive woes before the game. The players have no coordinating idea on D ... names like Harrison and Nawaqanitawase featured in particular.

They could sack the coach again but realistically they need to be sacking players - or to put a kinder spin on it, develop them at a lower level, e.g. Marinos's NRCv3...

Yeah I watched some but not all of that so didn’t catch who was notionally responsible for defence coaching.

I really think the defensive problem is a matter of coaching and strategy more than individuals. Of course they're not tackling awesome or anything, but a lot of the tries haven't been a result of any particular missed tackle. Take the first one as an example, nobody missed tackle, they just weren't there to make the tackle.

Whatever his name for the Chiefs has basically walked in four tries. He hasn't had to work too hard for any of them.

The defensive pattern & strategy is just all over the place.

It doesn't matter that it's head on head, it doesn't matter that you're taller than the attacking player. Those things are irrelevant.

If you go into a tackle bolt-upright and make contact with the player's head, you are responsible.

I'm not saying I like it, I'm just saying I can get the logic and it's not as ridiculous as the commentators are saying.

Sadly, Marky Mark is a cat on D ... and not the only one.

They are just a team of too many youngsters not ready for this level.

Shouldn't be continually rewarded with selection, but they are because of "potential" and no squad depth. Tahs organisation is a basket case.

Bloke like that should be getting occasional minutes off the bench, and working his way up

That maybe true, but I think both things can be true. The defensive strategy is all over the shop. The Chiefs have been walking in tries.

Nangawangawhatshisname is pretty handy on attack anyway. But yeah, that's not worth much if you skimp on defence.
