I think that was pretty harsh to be honest.

Might seem inconsistent with my previous post on the tackle, but it was very different in that Swinton was angling downwards, with low body height and the other guy with sitting on the ground. It's not like either of them were bolt-upright.

Yellow would have made more sense for my 2c.

Anyway, I can understand the call. The rules are the rules and direct contact with the head is not allowed, period. No complaints but I do feel a bit for Swinton on the verge of a Wallaby campaign.

If he is available for selection, I think he will still be in the team.

Anyone, including the selectors, can see there wasn't really much in that although the right call by the letter of the law.

He's big, strong, aggressive, has a huge engine, he's young with a huge future in front of him, he never takes a step backwards, a complete blind-side flanker that can also cover lock and eight, a good line-out jumper and goes at 100% for 90 minutes.

Maybe, I dunno.

We've lacked any aggression and mongrel in our forward pack for so long, also been playing under-sized specialist sevens all across the backrow for so long at the expense of our line-out, he's kind of a breath of fresh air. His debut for the Wallabies was the best debut any player has made in recent memory ... until the red card.

So yeah, I definitely see your point and there's definitely a problem there that needs to be sorted. But it's way too early to give up on him yet.

He had a clear shot, driving downwards, at a player already on the ground. That kind of crap was being utterly flogged by refs ten years or so ago. Remember the stuff about a plane taking off vs a plane landing? I certainly do.

Swinton was doubledumb.

The fella carries too much risk with him the way he currently plays.

Yeah, no argument about the last thing.

We'll see what Rennie does. I wouldn't be shocked to see him selected somewhere in the squad if he's available but he definitely put a big dent in his chances.

If he can cool his jets a bit he'll be great. Way too early to give up on him.

Can anyone tell me the last time Swinton made any metres with the ball? At all?

You've got to be kidding here. The hot-headed liability argument, I get that one. But you're off the reservation on this new point.

Didn't you just watch that game? He was easily the best forward in the pack and the primary option running the ball in tight.

If it wasn't for the brain snap in the last minute he would have cemented his spot in the Wallaby squad. He must be absolutely spewing right now.

The stats on the SANZAR page list him as having 16 carries for 37m... which does somewhat reflect his effort of a lot of carries with not so much impact, and does seem generous as he rarely appeared to get over the advantage line.

But this is now his 4th(?) red card since 2019... he copped 4 weeks after the Bledisloe last year, reduced by 2 for pleading guilty as he wasn't entitled to any reduction for having two prior offences.

Another GPS softie when it comes to real rugby.
Yet this "elite" comp will be heralded across GPS sportsmasters in boxes as the production line of Wallabies while at the same time the club competition that receives them tries to reduce the pool by cutting anything west of Sydney Uni (3 clubs in the Shute Shield).

A question for Waratahs fans, did the sacking of Rob Penney have the impact on the team that the Waratahs board was hoping for? I assume there would have been a significant pay-out associated with Penney's sacking a well.

I'm not trolling tahs fans. Just making the point that a good coach and decent person was ruthlessly sacked mid season and I'm not sure it had the impact that the NSW Rugby board hoped it would.
