"The Cell C Sharks have decided to be pro-active in their approach to the new challenge that is the move to the northern hemisphere United Rugby Championship competition by making a major revamp to their coaching group.

Former Springbok assistant coach John McFarland will return to top level coaching in South Africa after his stint at Stade Francais followed by a period helping out at Tukkies to serve as defence coach until current Springbok Sevens coach Neil Powell joins the group following next year’s Sevens Rugby World Cup in Cape Town.

Also joining head coach Sean Everitt’s coaching group with immediate effect will be Noel McNamara, an Irish-born coach who is highly regarded in the industry and will head up the attack. Brent Janse van Rensburg, who has been a senior assistant coach at the Sharks since leaving Griquas at the end of 2019, where he was head coach, has asked for an early release from his contract due to family reasons.

Etienne Fynn (scrums) and Phiwe Nomlomo (skills) will continue in their current roles, but Sharks CEO Eduard Coetzee has hinted that further coaching appointments will be made in the coming weeks as the Sharks prepare to embrace the challenge posed by playing in Europe."

Currie Cup clash between Cheetahs and Bulls cancelled due to positive Covid tests

The Currie Cup encounter between the Cheetahs and Bulls in Bloemfontein, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, has been cancelled due to positive Covid-19 tests.

The Cheetahs informed SA Rugby on Tuesday that they would be unable to fulfil their matchday obligation after a handful of their players, specifically in their front-row, have returned tests that indicate coronavirus infection. As such, the Bloemfontein-based team will not be able to field a complete team, or organise adequate cover in time to replace their isolated players.

That's not a good prospect for the first Lions test. Boks usually suck in that weather.

I will always miss the atmosphere of Newlands but this is a World Class stadium. Drainage is excellent. There wasn't any mud. Roof and pitch drainage pumping. It's hanging roof structure shielded the game from the elements. It was an exciting running game to watch and excellent tries. Roos that carried the Shark for some meters and scored and the Sharks try that was started by their wing Abrahams on their own 22 and the fall up and run till the try scored by 9. Swiel's penalty decided this

Talented loose forward Hacjivah Dayimani has returned to his roots by signing a long-term contract with Western Province Professional Rugby (WPPR).

Dayimani has been on loan for the first three games of the Carling Currie Cup and made the move back to Cape Town permanent by signing with WPPR for the next two years.

Originally from Joe Slovo Park in Cape Town, Dayimani grew up in Milnerton and attended Ysterplaat Primary before completing his schooling in Gauteng. He played at Craven Week in 2015 and went on to represent SA Schools that same year before turning professional.

The Bulls continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the United Rugby Championship (URC) later this year after securing the signatures of another two Springboks, the union announced on Wednesday on their social media platforms.

Former Lions players Lionel Mapoe and Ruan Combrinck have both joined the Pretoria-based outfit, joining a powerful array of recent signings that include Boks Marcell Coetzee and Johan Goosen, former Lions stalwart Harold Vorster and Jacques du Plessis, who rejoins the team from a highly successful stint at Montpellie

Cheetahs Pumas will wait on Lions tour decision both are replacements for bulls
Sharks Lions both have played the B+I Lions by then. Lions defence were so poor. Sharks favourite for this one
