Nothing yet on how the Sharks and Lions log points will be affected. Points deducted from the Bulls for being the cause of the cancelation?

President of the Eastern Province Rugby Union Andre Rademan has passed away after a battle with COVID-19.

Rademan was recently re-elected as President of EP after serving an initial term of four years. He was also chairman of the board of the Southern Kings.

The 62-year-old Rademan tested positive for COVID-19 some time ago and was placed on a ventilator in intensive care in a Gqeberha hospital, where he sadly passed away on Tuesday.

Due to extraordinary circumstances, SA Rugby announced on Wednesday that two Currie Cup Premier Division matches this weekend will be cancelled.

The clash between the Sharks and the Pumas, scheduled for Durban on Friday, has been called off due to unrest in KwaZulu-Natal, while Saturday’s match in Kimberley between Griquas and the Bulls is also off.

The Bulls have reportedly arrived in Cape Town to help provide some opposition for the Springboks this weekend ahead of the three-Test series against the British and Irish Lions.

Tournament rules make provision for the cancellation of matches due to extraordinary circumstances and as a result, the scores in both these matches will be noted as 0-0, with all four teams awarded four log points.

The same will apply to the match that was cancelled last weekend, between the Lions and the Sharks (0-0 and four log points each).

Saturday’s match between the Lions and Cheetahs in Johannesburg will take place.

The Currie Cup match between the Lions and Cheetahs – scheduled for Ellis Park this weekend – has been cancelled as a result of concerns over the ongoing violence in South Africa.

Harold Verster, Managing director of the Free State Cheetahs, confirmed that the Bloemfontein-based team was not willing to travel to Johannesburg for Saturday’s fixture.

He cited the ongoing violence that has ravaged parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng as one of the main reasons.

SA Rugby also confirmed the cancellation.

“Due to the situation of unrest currently being experienced in Gauteng, two matches scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on Saturday have been cancelled or postponed,” a statement from SA Rugby said.

“The Currie Cup match between the Lions and the Cheetahs has been called off.

“A decision on the result and log points will be made at a later stage.”

With all the kak going on , its important that we get the matches back on track. Not only for the players but also for us rugby supporters.

If you look at the Bok camp, we'll need backup players all the time.

There are a long season ahead.

Great to see the Pumas and Griquas at the top.

Expect the Bulls to be unbeatable from here.

Sadly but they set a great example

IOL
Bulls contribute R100 000 to Sharks fundraising campaign for violence-affected KZN
CAPE TOWN – The Bulls may feel that the momentum gained from beating South Africa A last Saturday will be lost due to the cancellation of Wednesday’s Currie Cup clash against the Sharks, but that hasn’t stopped them from lending a helping hand to the KwaZulu-Natal union.

The violence and looting in KZN and parts of Gauteng have resulted in at least 212 deaths, with 180 of those coming in the east-coast province.

That led to SA Rugby, the Sharks and Bulls discussing and deciding to call off the Currie Cup encounter that was scheduled for Kings Park on Wednesday night, due to safety concerns.

But later on Monday, Bulls chief executive Edgar Rathbone said in a statement that they have chosen to play the return Currie Cup game – which was set for August 6 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria – in Durban.

SA Rugby said that “a decision on the result and log points will be made at a later stage”.

Unfortunately the Lions aren't improving their discipline (1 red card and 8 minutes with 13 men) or their handling skills and I can't see them doing well in the Pro16 unless some drastic changes and improvements are made
