I cannot stress with how amazing the gloaming were last night.

If somehow you can get tickets to see them tonight or tomorrow in the concert hall, do so. It was incredible.

Saw O'Raghallaigh with 'This is how we fly' in Sligo a couple of weeks ago. A bit experimental for my taste, but even then O'Raghallaigh was unbelievable, as was their very strange Swedish drummer. They also featured an Appalachian board dancer, so , as I say, a bit experimental for me, but you could still appreciate the musical genius.

O'Raghallaigh takes more of a back seat to Hayes in the Gloaming.

It was magnificent. Perfect mix of "traditional" trad - if that makes sense and newer stuff

They're here in the Barbican on Tuesday. I'm not a great fan of the experimental stuff either. So far I didn't take too much interest. I don't think I could make it that night anyway.
Balcony tickets available here for anyone interested:

Gloaming aren't really experimental, more just how they meld Iarla O'Lionards songs into long sets.

Hate to harp on, but if you have even a passing interest in trad, check them out.

Requisite Celtic Soul from Canada.

There's a surprising amount of it floating around in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.

Anyway I've been reading a lot about the Napoleonic wars recently, including Jenny Unglows social history 'In the times'. Which gives me the excuse to post Paul Brady's majisterial rendition of the Napoleonic ballad 'Arthur McBride and the Sergeant'.

Enjoy - I definitely will.
