The government are getting involved
Peter Walker, our political correspondent, emails as follows: “Oliver Dowden, the culture secretary, is to make a statement to the Commons on Monday afternoon, probably at about 5pm. It is understood that officials in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport are examining what powers the government might have to stop the plan, and what action it could take. Options believed to be under consideration include taking action under competition laws, and wider reforms, for example guaranteeing fans a greater say in the running of clubs and the wider sport.”

If only they’d been so exercised all along, eh, but at this point we’ll take what we can get

You could nail the owners of chelski and man city for being dodgy arseholes from dodgy regimes. Harder to get the rest. Pretty sure the tight fisted wankers stan kranky and moron glazer are very unpopular with arsenal and Man utd fans.

Interesting intervention from Alex de Pfeffel. He was, as ever, utterly misinformed and wrong when he boasted the UK's relative vaccine success was down to "greed and capitalism". Then this comes along and he's dead against on principle, despite it being driven by the dictionary definition...

Always the same for people to propose to be ultra capitalists. I'm sure there are plenty of examples for the oppose and huge stage purists. They all ignore the fact these work best as a mi of both or the appropriate parts in the appropriate places on the spectrum.

I'm done. Done, done, done, done, done.

Pure greed and anti competition and anti meritocracy. Billionaires crying at smaller teams punching above their weight.

Expel them all from their domestic leagues, expel them from all current cup competitions, deduct all points for this season.

You have to come down so f**king hard now or they will forever own football

On the plus side.

A massive resurgence in lower league and non-league football attendances. The British lower league pyramid is just wonderful. This will bolster small town revenue and people will still go and watch their football.

On the negative side.

Premiership attendances will crash, the money will fall out of the premier league and, to be frank, the exchequer will lose a heck of a lot of money.

This happening was a matter of when, not if given the amount of foreign ownership in the PL.

Hats off to the Germans. They understand football and what it is actually all about.

Football; created by the poor, stolen by the rich.

Spurs haven't won the league since 1961. How can, besides greed and money they be ranked over the dozen or so sides who have won it since?

This 100%

I think the lowest division possible would be

Liverpool, Man U and Man C = Northern Division One North West (Division 8)
Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham = Isthmian League Division 1 South (Division 8)

As I understand, expulsion from PL requires 3/4 of clubs vote in favour.

That's 15 of the 20 clubs, so will require one of these 6 turkeys to vote for Christmas.

Not really surprised to see a cabal of foreign owners looking to enrich themselves at the expense of the rest. But how are they going to fulfil their fixture list if the domestic league[s] tell them to fuck off and do one as they surely will?

Any serious breach of the Rule Book results in an independent three-person tribunal sitting to hear the case, ascertain guilt and set the punishment, which can range from fines to points deductions and, in extreme cases, expulsion from the competition (this has never happened in the history of the Premier League).
Clubs have the opportunity to propose new rules or amendments at the Shareholder meeting. Each Member Club is entitled to one vote and all rule changes and major commercial contracts require the support of at least a two-thirds vote, or 14 clubs, to be agreed.
So the 6 wanker clubs DO NOT have the numbers to stay in the division if they are targeted now

I was told it was 3/4, not 2/3 - this 2/3 ratio would be a much better number.

I also heard that clubs are obliged to make up financial shortfall if they opted to leave, but god knows how that would work.
