Still tiny numbers considering most of the country is back open - quite happy with those stats. The WHO said we have to learn to live with the virus.Lazy Couch potato wrote:45 on a sat isn’t a good signDuff Paddy wrote:45 cases, 0 deaths

It's f**king sickening for them and their families, decent chance a good number have played their last game of rugby if it doesn't go ahead given the drop off after school. And there's no good reason not to play it at this point.Duff Paddy wrote:He’s right but he’ll get hammered for it, the permanently outraged of twitter will be, you guessed it, outraged. Donnelly said a significant proportion are linked to existing outbreaks/clusters.
That in itself is significant because it means the tracing is working quite well and they can hopefully limit it spreading.
In the UK one of the SAGE team is now saying "you might have to choose between pubs or schools..."

Traditional pubs simply aren’t compatible with a viral pandemic. End of. The government needs to pay them to stay shut and pay the staff to stay off work. It’s shit but that’s life. Schools are different, they can’t stay closed.Leinsterman wrote:Donnelly said a significant proportion are linked to existing outbreaks/clusters.

Dutch infection rates off the chart
Yet no push for reversing lockdowns. Most that will happen here is likely local lockdowns.
Im back in the office now too.... And the Gym.
Much more relaxed attitude here. Both parents in law have had it now and recovered.

I’ve argued what I thought we were going for, control of the virus through good testing, tracing, good hygiene and social distancing.
“Hybrid” is between suppression and control, it is the worst of all worlds.

It’s the same in another country that shall not be named. Everything ticking along with continued social distancing, people prepared to live with a level of risk, schools will be open in September and there is none of this war gaming we’re seeing elsewhere.nardol wrote:Dutch infection rates off the chart

So you decided to post information about the Netherlands on an Irish thread but it was in no way related or meant as a comparison to Ireland? Okay kid.Dutch infection rates off the chart

Re: Rugby NAMA thread Revisited Rugby
Belgium, the U.K., Spain, Italy and likely the Netherlands (given what Cammy posted above) have worse death rates but what are facts, eh?
Anyway, this goes for other Scandinavian countries as well, including the ones who locked down swiftly. Acting swiftly was one thing, but honesty and transparency is another. There isn’t talk and a fear of a “second wave” there as they took a grown up attitude to it there, rather than moving from risk mitigation to OTT safetyism. At least it hasn’t become a political weapon in Ireland like it has in the US though.
We shall see what happens during the week anyway with the Phase 4 openings.

Nothing wrong with comparing attitudes and approaches in different places. Lads on here had no problem in lobbing bombs at the U.K. in here a couple of weeks ago.
I wonder when we will finally just take an EU approach to all of this? It’s the easy out for politicians all over the continent. I know some of them are enjoying playing the leadership role, with a wall of money behind them at the moment, but that can’t go on surely.

Some interesting stats on retail spending in Ireland and recovery to June
https://twitter.com/rlydon2/status/1288 ... 92064?s=21
https://twitter.com/seamusmcguinnes/sta ... 5048355840
Also, I wish the FT could put together similar for Ireland;

Very interesting paper here from the ESRI linked, worth a read. Tallies with the need for more direct supports vs. just wholesale stimulus.Ireland’s unemployment rate was 22% in June. Job loss rates were > 75% in sectors such as Personal Services , Accomodation and Food. Here we propose a strategy for directing employment supports at new claimants at greatest risk of long term unemployment.

Struggling to write a song about Lardon and Sewage.
The Nardol's the kind of man
Who drinks his lager from a can
Any can when he can.
Let us go to the banks of the canal.
And dear mullet remembers that for him
he often see his untrue stories in his eyes.

Re: Rugby NAMA thread Revisited Rugby
https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2020/08 ... ronavirus/Speaking to the same programme, consultant in infectious disease at The Mater Hospital Dr Jack Lambert said the solution was not to wait and see and have more restrictive processes in place than our EU neighbours.
He said we need to have a plan that is viable and sustainable and work with Covid-19 in the long run.
Dr Lambert said Covid-19 is not a short-term problem and will go on for around three years, adding that we cannot stay in lockdown for three years.
He said the economy and public health needed to be balanced, but with health of course being the priority.
Dr Lambert said the big problem in front of us is the domestic transmission of the virus here, rather than cases related to travel abroad
https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/ ... 4?mode=ampInfectious diseases expert Prof Jack Lambert has said it is not “the right message” to be saying that “if we open up the pubs then the schools won’t be able to open in September”.
The UCD associate professor also said he did not believe the State’s restrictive travel policy is the answer to dealing with Covid-19.
He said there were fewer cases of Covid-19 in Northern Ireland than in the Republic even though the South has a more restrictive travel policy.
“We have to focus on where the clusters are in Ireland,” he said.
Another expert calling for sustainable, long term measures and the end of trying to be the clever boys in class playing schools off businesses.
Re: Rugby NAMA thread Revisited Rugby
53 new cases and zero deaths today ...
Was gonna have a (outdoors, distancing, tracing, etc, of course !) barbecue today but, as I am about 2 km from a certain dog food factory which had 34 new cases on its own, I had to bin it as an idea last Thursday.
It's all a bit of a pain in the hole, but no point being front page news next week if you can help it.

All but 4 of the cases are connected to an outbreak/previous case. Hopefully we're coming to the end of this mini spike.

I hope your optimism is on target. Sunday and a Bank Holiday generally give lagging reporting ... we need to check in by the end of the week to see if we are under control or not. If we continue to spike sooner, then things are not good.camroc1 wrote:And it confirms that the trace and test system is working as it should.CM11 wrote:All but 4 of the cases are connected to an outbreak/previous case.
