Agree. Am I right in thinking that this guy was just doing it as a kind of a hobby? You’d think we would have academic groups in the university sector churning out this kind of content - maybe we did but they certainly didn’t have the impact he did

I haven't used it very often, and never at night. I also haven't travelled further west than Longmile, but I've seen some unsavourary behaviour and characters at St. James and Heuston. From friends and colleagues who use it more often I get the sense that there is a more pervasive low level of anti-social behaviour that never really seems to get tackled and that boils over spectacularly every now and then - both on the trams and in the vicinity of the stops.

The most recent issues (I know they were Green Line) seem to be more related to two specific groups of teenage skangers at 'war', which you would think could be addressed with some targeted policing. Back in the day that might have been an 'invitation' to have a chat in a back room of the garda station with some rubber hosing and a few hefty guards who preferred to let their physical action do the talking.

The man arrested on Wednesday is a former senior officer in the force who moved up the ranks very quickly and was well-known and well-liked. He was regarded as a rising star of the Garda and secured repeated promotions.
Sounds like you could work out who it was is you knew the scene.

No, but yes, or yes but no.

Minister of Justice decides when a life sentence is released. Average is about 20 years or so these days. In theory, no need to release if still dangerous/violent.

How they do inner city renewal/redevelopment in London.
Posh people’
Roger Madelin, who heads the Canada Water redevelopment project in London for British Land and previously led the regeneration of King’s Cross, said the first homes in the new development should be low-rise apartments for “posh people” and “rich people” rather than “the most needy and dependent” to give people confidence in the scheme before taller blocks are built.

Learn more

“Posh people, rich people have to live somewhere and they tend, obviously, to have more choice because they have this wealth,” he said. “Do the first six-storey residential development for people who have got a choice.”

When the less well-off see those with money choosing to live in an area, they are more likely to accept change, he said.

“Don’t force the most needy and dependent residents into stuff they don’t feel comfortable with because it’s different and it’s unusual.” Instead, “create something wonderful so aspiring people who are likely to be high earners do move in first,” he said.

“I’m not saying you don’t do any supported housing but whenever people see people who have got a choice moving to a six-storey development that has great space and great public amenity, and is connected into public transport and cycleways, other people will go from saying ‘You’re not going to force me to live there’ to ‘Oh, that’s quite nice, actually’,” he said.

Imagine if you tried that in Dublin ? The howls of rage would be heard from coast to coast.
