Yes about half of the peak in ICU with Covid designated hospitals filled up & deaths still at one fifth of the peak...local areas not hit hard the first time will always be a concern but rock on.

To put that in perspective 1/500 die of heart disease every year in Ireland. There'd be some covid crossover too.

Saw it last night .... very concerning

As statto said, this is what NPHET is trying to avoid with their preemptive restrictions ....which look to be working

People are increasingly willing to give NPHET the benefit of the doubt, as the situation deteriorates across Europe ..... but two or three dopes on here (not including ER, Stats, Cammy, Duff et al in that description) will never back down

we can all see who they are

It's the ASTI - they lost out for rejecting the terms of the last strike, didn't they. I suspect that the D Ed will let them strike until the parents start threatening to string them up.

We had lads screaming about deaths in schools in May and then cheerleading another lockdown.

Why should teachers go into that environment when so many are claiming that it's incredibly deadly?Changing your opinion now because the Government are desperate to keep schools open is a bit rich.

You reap what you sow with this.

A small but significant number of parents are refusing to get their children tested for Covid-19 when they are phoned by HSE contact tracers, the Oireachtas health committee was told today.

HSE public health specialist Dr Kevin Kelleher said people can be very unhappy when told they are a contact of a person who has tested positive and that they must restrict their movements.

”It is a surprise and not what they want to hear,” he added. A small number can get very angry, he said in response to Fianna Fáil TD John Lahart.

He said: ”There is a significant, very small group of parents who refuse to get their child tested and are very unhappy as a consequence of this process.”

Contact tracers can get a fair degree of abuse and visibly “wilt.”

HSE officials were before the committee to be quizzed on the testing and tracing system after a recent breakdown on contact tracing over three days forced nearly 2,000 people who tested positive to inform their own contacts.

The meeting heard there is still strong reliance on redeployed staff such as speech and language therapists to work as contact tracers even though there are large waiting lists for therapies.

Officials were also asked to clarify why some teachers and special needs assistants have been told to turn off their contact tracing app while at school.
That last bit can't possibly be true could it?
Of course it’s true - if you’re wearing PPE you turn off Bluetooth so the app doesn’t register you as a close contact

HSE have pointed out that schools are assessed on their own merits. If there is a case in the school, you don't need the app and it's just confusing getting a message saying you're a close contact as the app is anonymous so you don't know if it's the school contact until the HSE investigate.

We’ve all read thinking fast and slow at this stage. Humans cannot process risk intuitively. 1 in 1000 is scary until you realise that other everyday risks are much more “dangerous”. We’ve shut down the country for one risk that has been completely blown out of all proportion.
