Here's my review of the Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir

Tried the Pinot Noir yesterday. For the price, it's a very decent wine. Perfect, as you said, for a BBQ or just having a pint or two.
Fixed 😎

The weather forecast is looking good for the weekend, the BBQ will be fired up and loaded with meat... all that needs to happen now is for this to arrive out of bond in time 🤞

Another new one for you, worthy of a Premier Cru tag:

Ordered/withdrawn Monday before lunchtime, couldn't get it here before the weekend for some reason.

Amon-ra is the character from Night at the Museum 2

Very funny characters played by the Simpsons actor guy.

What wine would you pair with Barber's Adagio for Strings?

What music would you match with a bottle of Viña Tondonia Blanco?

Here's a legal answer

I don't think I've opened anything that good during lockdown. Too many everyday drinking bottles to get through I suppose (yeah, poor me 😉)

Frankster, if you haven’t tried this I really think you’d enjoy it.

It is very lightly oaked which gives enough oak to add depth of flavour without dominating the beautiful fruit flavours.

Really good with or without food.

I'm using lockdown as an excuse to open something good at least once a week, and to take delivery of wines that I've bought but are still with the merchant.

The Amon-Ra is one I've been hankering for since I bought it on release. The reviews for the 2016 have been very positive. I know that it'll improve with more time in the bottle, but I'm impatient and want to try one before tucking the rest away.

I couldn’t bring myself to spend that sort of money on anything Australian at all. That money buys amazing Rioja and near super Tuscan if you don’t want a French cliche.

Why the aversion to pricy Ozzies?

Henschke and Penfolds are the obvious big boys, and I'd agree that their top wines are overpriced due to demand, but there are other producers, like Glaetzer with Amon Ra, that are producing amazing wines.

That, if I was going to follow your lead and stick with Spain or Italy, I'd look outside the cliches of Rioja and Super Tuscans to find value and more interesting wines.

I love Henschke actually. And I’m not actually saying the Amon Ra isn’t worth it because the global market genuinely isn’t a fool , nor are wine writers etc.

I’ve a rational hatred of Penfolds as they’ve used production of one wine and extrapolated that “name” across ranges of massively overpriced average shite which only trades off the name of the premium production, good for them for getting away with it but it cheapens the whole industry and trade.

I’m getting amazing value between 20-30 quid in Spain and Italy, in Spain I love the production from Rjoja Alta and the better named crianzas, I’m sure you can find better but I genuinely can’t be bothered except for my cheap drinking to do any searching.

Irishers: Lidl have some summer wine promotions coming up; as before there will be a limited number of each wine released, and once stocks are gone they are gone.

4th June - Italian Range

but before that

21st May - "Iberian Range"
The quotation marks are important as this will include wines from:
- Spain
- Portugal
- Chile
- New Zealand
- Australia

I've just received samples of this lot so will report back in due course

So we're already onto the third edition in the Frankly Wines and Friends Wine & Music Series

The tasks this time:

- choose a song to match Joseph Cattin Riesling Reserve

- choose a wine to match Norah Jones – Don’t Know Why

clicky

right, about to do another wine society order. i'm much weaker on whites/roses than reds?

can anyone recommend me some decent quaffable wines on there (£12 or under). i hate oak and prefer the drier side, but do enjoy the occasional viogner

the first wine that comes up if i click that is a gwurtztramminer?

Because you don't like Gewurz, or you think it will be sweet?

Totally fair enough. Gewurz is a bit of a marmite grape. Marcel who buys Alsace for TWS seems to prefer the driver style so you might like those listed. I actually prefer them with a bit of sweetness.

If you unselect the "Dry, Rich" filter then that style will disappear from the choices.

We went to Naples and the surrounding area a few years back and liked the white wines that were poured as an aperitif.

TWS have a very nice one from the that part of Italy at a good price point - https://www.thewinesociety.com/shop/Pro ... pd=IT29171

and this one from Sicily is good too - https://www.thewinesociety.com/shop/Pro ... pd=IT28671

neither are oaky and both a fruity, peachy wines - if you like viogner, chances are you like these two.

All around your price point and wines I've drunk this year. Only bought 1 rose so far this year but they do have a prtetty good range. The Corsican Rose is good but a tad over £12
The Society's Vin D'Alsace
Joseph Cattin Edelzwicker Alsace
Alvarinho Contacto Mendes
Contessa Abruzzo Pecorino
The Society's Exhibition Gruner Veltliner
D'Arenberg Hermit Crab Viognier Marsanne
Billi Billi Grampians Pinot Grigio
Chapel Down Pinot Blanc
Languedoc Rose Chateau Rouquette sur Mer Cuve Adagio
