The bottom end of High Street I think. It was hard to know.
The place has still got a lot of these buildings which are being knocked down.
An ironic piece of advertising
Scenes like this are all too common
The obligatory peninsula shots
The CBD may be faaaaaaaarked but the city is still buzzing hard. I would move back there.

Yep, Corner of High street and Tuam opposite Alice in videoland (below).
They are actually trying to save all the facades on that stretch. They were doing a good job too until some fuckwit decide to set fire to one of them.

This is the old Deans' Emporium, the only building remaining on that corner of Oxford Terrace and Hereford St. All the old Strip has been knocked down.
Loads of these heritage buildings are going to go.

This Restart Mall is an important splash of colour in an otherwise lonely CBD

Hmm it's quite funny what I've found in my photobucket account. Haven't signed into the thing for over 2 years.
Who remembers this from AC's Isaac Ross man-crush stage
This is post Cardiff angst I think

I drove into central Christchurch as far as it was possible last month when I was home in the South Island. Though the devastation was plain to see, I view this as a fresh start for the central city. I was never enamoured with the CBD, always believing Christchurch's true beauty to lie elsewhere. While places like Hagley Park, Sumner and St Albans were always beautiful, the CBD always struck me as a cold relic of mother England, despite the fact some locals liked the city's reputation as "the most English city outside of England". Like England, it had some shit hot boozers, but it also had a lot of poorly built, old fashioned facades that don't suit this part of the world.
It's time to move on as a New Zealand city should; modern, independent, and free of the colonial influence. I look forward to the remodelled CBD representing Christchurch as it is, and not what it once tried to be.

It never felt "english" to me, although I could see where the idea came from. I hope we can retain as much heritage as possible for the character that provides. My fear with the remodelling is that developers will take the easy short term quick buck off the shelf option than looking at the long term.
I would like them to look at why areas like the strip, poplar lane and SOL square worked so well and design a modern equivalent for those types of areas.

I think they are hoping to move the old Deans imporium to another site. Something they say should be possible as it's a wooden building.
