If a guy was to move to Christchurch with a couple of starting high school girls any recommendations as to where to live?

The western part of the city suffered the least damage. And Burnside high, also in the western part of the city, is very popular. There are other good schools as well, but I don't really pay enough attention to compare them sorry. The drawback with the western part of the city though is that it is further from the hills and the sea. Not that anything is really that far away in Christchurch.

The South Island beer Festival from Feb this year at Ilam House. Was a lovely 34°C day with 30 local brews available. Much more civilised than the big festival in hagley park. I'm actually in one of these shots. But too small to work out unless you knew it was me.

I was never a big fan of the cathedral, but I have to admit it's nice to see the old girl in all her glory.

There is still no word on what they are going to do with it. These guys are campaigning to save it.

And I've seen there billboards around the city, plus adds in the paper. Photo's were taken in June this year.

She's a very nice girl. All the staff are nice to be fair. :)

And as for the beer. I rarely get past the 20 plus beers on tap, but I should make the effort to try some of those in the cabinet.

It's not good news unfortunately.
Fat Old Git wrote:Looks like the new stadium could be as long as 8 years away. :(

So this could be it until then.

How long the temporary rugby stadium at Addington remains in play rests on the outcome of negotiations between the Government and the city council, says Christchurch Stadium Trust chairman Jim Anderton.

Anderton fronted up to the Christchurch City Council this morning to plead for a $2 million loan.

The cash is needed so the trust, which administers the stadium, can buy rather than lease the stadium's tiered seating.

Buying the seating will save the trust around $700,000 a year, money it can then use to upgrade and improve the stadium so it can remain in use beyond 2017.

Without the loan the stadium maybe forced to close - potentially leaving Christchurch without a stadium for professional sport - as it is only breaking even and there is no spare cash to pay for work needed to extend the life of the stadium.

"You have to decide whether you want a stadium there after 2017 and if you do, then some assistance is going to be required,'' Anderton told councillors.

It was planned that Christchurch would have a new permanent stadium by 2017, as outlined in the central city recovery blueprint, but the scheduled date for completion has now been pushed out to 2019.

That date may be delayed further due to financial challenges facing the council, but that will depend on the outcome of negotiations between the council and the Government.

The Christchurch Stadium Trust is working on the premise the stadium may be needed until 2022.

I suppose a sports ground is down on the list of priorities.

With domestic rugby increasingly taking a back seat, it means they will probably downscale any replacement stadium.

It wouldn't surprise me. They were reporting the other day that they will run out of money before all the roads were fixed, so some pot holed, quake torn roads might not get scheduled to be fixed for as long as 20 years or someting rediculous like that. :(

Here's a couple of shots I came across today showing the change in our skyline. First is post quake, but before much of the demolistion had kicked off. Second was taken in the last day or so.
