Some performance from Yates all round. What's his asthma status? :(( It's shit that I immediately start wondering.

Pinot. :o

Good ride by the dawg, quality win by Dennis, about par for Dumoulin given how hard he's been going..

.. but a splendid ride by Simon Yates. :D

A lead of 1 min 27 secs going into the last few stages - can't see anyone catching him now unless he bonks massively on one of the climbs

And with 3 summit finishes to come you really can’t see Dumoulin shaking him.

Yates deserves the win.
Pinot talked a good game and disapointed again.

All he has to do is sit on the dutchman's wheel but you absolutely know he's going to attack regardless.

Not quite, he was only 1 min 27 secs down on Dumoulin today. Dumoulin has closed the overall gap to 56 seconds. It's all 3 minutes + though after that so unless a spectacular explosion is on the way I don't think Dumoulin or anyone else will beat him. And well deserved too.

I hope he does attack. Another stage win would be great.

Hopefully one of the better climbers throws caution to the wind & has a go (Froome, Pinot, Pozzovivo) - would make for a few exciting stages

Aru’s been docked 20s for drafting too.

Dennis is back in the top 10 and only 5 minutes down on Yates. Obviously no threat to the pink, but it’s a seriously good ride for him so far and he could be into the Dumoulin role given another couple of seasons.

And then I checked and found out Dennis is 6 months older than Dumoulin. But still, he’s about to be 28, and has a few good years of cycling in him.

Yates has come in under the radar for this one and looks the real deal - are we sure that he and his brother aren't swapping from stage to stage!!! :) If he pulls this off it looks like the sport's next superstar has been found (is his bro going for the tour?)

Incredible performance so far by Yates, he has really stepped up one additional notch and at a very young age. Now 4 more days to make history, but there are two very tough real mountain stages with long climbs.

Terrible TT by Pinot, very disappointed and sad for the lad. Let's see if he can grab a stage now.

Pozzovivo is in superb form, he will attack and a podium slot would be deserved !

Another great Giro, and it ain't over yet.

Any chance of an attack today? (by any of the big hitters) - a few lumps & bumps early doors, so potential for someone to get away - but i guess the sprint teams will be keen to chase anything down

Bora and Quickstep would like everything to stay together, but neither can do it alone. Sounds like it’s all together, but with an uncategorized climb still to go, and then 60km to ride after that.

Another win for Viviani, fair play to him. Heard he was a bit shook on one of the climbs earlier so must have been kept nicely alive by Quickstep.

Been a shite Giro for the breakaway experts, hasn’t it? Between Yates taking all the summit finishes and Bennett and Viviani dominating the flat ones it’s just not a good year to be a deMarchi or LL Sanchez.

Sanchez has had great legs all season, but he just hasn’t had the freedom in the breaks in this race. I don’t think anyone picked 6 bunch finishes with Rome still to come for this year, especially with the sprinter teams having 1 less man each in their trains.

Wow... that's a lot of time lost given the distance to go when TD attacked. Giro open again.... even if Yates still massive favourite

Yeah... but today's stage was made for those big power climbers, a long steady climb at the end suiting steady tempo riding. Once the power went down he was spent. If the next couple of days are more like those hard climbing days last week he should be ok, it should suit his punchier style.

I think.
Fully agree yet week 3 of a grand tour..... strange things can happen.

The Finestre nearly did for Contador in 2015. But he was up against an Astana team full of in-form climbers. But there’s an extra mountain and an extra stage after it this year. Its all to play for.

He’s off the back, with only Nieve for company, and the whole Sky train in full choo choo mode.

As I type he’s found another. Sky have put Lopez off the back, so Astana have had LL Sanchez sit up while holding a 40+ second lead and go back and help him.

There’s still more than 80km to go today, with 2 more summits after this one. This stage is looking like being a bit on the epic side.

Sad to see for Yates, his efforts deserved better. Astonshed at Doumoulin's continued strength but if Froome is in the mood Sky could really make a race of this today.

Hoooooly shit. Froome taking a solo flyer with 80km to go.

Dumoulin should be letting Reichenbach get back on to work for Pinot, rather than panicking 2 hours out and trying to chase shadows.

5 minutes to Yates. He’s going to lose 20 by the end of the day.

Incredible stage.

I am somewhat re-assured that Yates just cannot sustain such form over 3 weeks and finally cracks in the real mountain stages, it was too good to be true. He's not a pure great mountain climber, at least not yet. His downfall is exceptionally brutal though, he's literally walking in that climb.

Great by Froome, fantastic to see a 4 times TdF winner attack on his own and rock the race.

Dumoulin now in an ideal position but 2 great climbs remaining, who knows what will happen. Let's see what Pinot and Pozzovivo may have in the bag also.

Both Froome and Dumoulin could end up cracking too.

What a stage !
