Congratulations to them.

Yep, because women who give birth feel back to normal again after 24 hours.Dark wrote:Tbf we don't know how long after she had the baby the photo was takenTehui wrote:How the hell any woman can smile for the cameras after going through something physically traumatic as childbirth is beyond me.

She went on about 5.30am
And the birth was announced mid way through the prime time 6pm news.
Good PR though
I was always amazed how quickly so many women do appear to bounce back after what looked like a near death experience. My own supporting ordeal was bad enough with a small tv and an uncomfortable armchair and it still took me a few days to get over it all.Tehui wrote:Yep, because women who give birth feel back to normal again after 24 hours.Dark wrote:Tbf we don't know how long after she had the baby the photo was takenTehui wrote:How the hell any woman can smile for the cameras after going through something physically traumatic as childbirth is beyond me.

Good one bro.

Great
Enz gets all uber sensitive and defensive when I point out the announcement might be timed for the news.
Calm down Enz.
The human body is an amazing thing, and women's bodies actually produce a lot of natural compounds that help with a speedy recovery, and even to forget how painful the experience was to some extent (or so our anti-natal teacher explained it to us). Which isn't really surprising when you think about it. Humans haven't always given birth in nice safe environments and a speedy recovery was a fairly necessary survival trait.Mr Mike wrote:I was always amazed how quickly so many women do appear to bounce back after what looked like a near death experience. That's nature for you. Try being a zebra or a gazelle born on the African plains. Not only does mom have to recover quickly but the baby has to be able to bound along with the rest of the herd within hours of birth if they don't want to become lion tucker.Fat Old Git wrote:The human body is an amazing thing, and women's bodies actually produce a lot of natural compounds that help with a speedy recovery, and even to forget how painful the experience was to some extent (or so our anti-natal teacher explained it to us). Yeah It's a cute little baby I give em that apologies I went off the deep end with that remark.booji boy wrote:Come off it mate. The Spinoff has already highlighted a bunch of instances of media going pink.
I hate the term 'virtue signaling' and I like the Spinoff in general, but sometimes you do realise why the term and the plums that use it get so much traction.
In general. They tend to let their people off the leash in terms of opinion columns so they do publish the odd dud (and that was one) but it's ok in general and it's definitely a net positive in general for NZ journalism. But they do tend to get really smug about media coverage.Wilderbeast wrote:You like the spinoff? Even more, do we really want our media obsessed with this largely inconsequential dribble?booji boy wrote:I was only winding you up. I'm happy for them but can do without the media gushing we're likely to get in the coming weeks and months. Other politicians keep their kids out of the media and rightly so. Do we really want this little girl growing up in the media spotlight? I hope not.
Yeah the question is how long will it go on for? Some are comparing it to a royal baby ffs. A royal baby is a royal for life. If Jacinda is prime minister for 3 terms does this little kid get fawned over until she's 8? What if Jacinda gets rolled in 2020, do we forget about the little 2 year old?guy smiley wrote:Dark wrote:OMG

That's not bad.
Some of you are just gonna have to suck this up. For a start, we know our home media tend to be parochial and down home at best and in conjunction with that, this is the first governing leader to give birth in office for nearly 30 years (I think, without a google) so they're going to fuss over it.
Nothing to do but try to let it blow past. Find your centre. Absorb your Great Inner Peace. Be the thing you always wanted.
Go bush.
The problem is that a large percentage of our population is also obsessed with largely inconsequential dribble.merlin the happy pig wrote:

You say that like it's a fact but I guess it's the same for whoever is in power that it doesn't matter what you do with power so long as you have itdeadduck wrote:Kahu wrote:Key claiming National would repeal WFF was pretty much a vote winner for mine. The lying plum.
That would have been a fantastic first term objective, right in the middle of the GFC. Would have been really popular I bet, not politically suicidal at all.
They usually go to birthcare for a couple of days after hospital. However, I heard on the news the PM will be going straight home. Birthcare is a really great thing about the NZ Health System.deadduck wrote:I want to know if she's been turfed out of hospital yet like every other mother in the public health system, or if she's getting special treatment due to her status? She’d be fine at Hutt hospital, they don’t turf you out within 24 hours theredeadduck wrote:I want to know if she's been turfed out of hospital yet like every other mother in the public health system, or if she's getting special treatment due to her status? They say she had 3 parliamentary protection squad dudes outside her room while giving birth which is kind of understandable and is staying for at least another nightdeadduck wrote:I want to know if she's been turfed out of hospital yet like every other mother in the public health system, or if she's getting special treatment due to her status? Is that common? My wife got her own room at Kenepuru and was there for a couple of days without her having experienced any major birth issues. She did get turfed out of Wellington hospital, but they got her a room elsewhere. Seems new mothers are looked after a bit better than you think?deadduck wrote:I want to know if she's been turfed out of hospital yet like every other mother in the public health system, or if she's getting special treatment due to her status? It's this whole calling them "The first family" which is weird.
When did we turn Yank?
