Probably so. So, one wonders - what is the point if the reason is that it might impact on his business. Its easy to think that in some circumstances, name suppression is granted too readily.

I suspect that was just one of the grounds the defense advanced.

Haven't we been over this? Any appeal against the refusal of name suppression buys an extra couple of days as a matter of due process. That's probably all that's happened here.

Yes, but thought that the PM handled that very well.

He chickened out - or was under the misguided belief that just his presence there (like a US Carrier) would be enough to bring Obewon into line.

It certainly seemed like he set off to Turkey with the intention of putting Erdogan in his place but was cowed by the powerful dictator once he arrived. Poor show. Should have just stayed home and voiced our disapproval from here as the Aussie PM has done.

Peters clearly said and also clearly implied he was going to have words with the guy when over there. And then he said he didn't even bring it up. So it's a logical conclusion to say he dropped his balls when faced with a genuine dictator. Peters has always being a mediocre diplomat, it's not his first rodeo either.

Sorry Guy but Sunday attention span doesn't stretc h that far.

I based it on Peters saying that he didn't need to raise the subject of the video and his speech as "he had stopped doing it"

He also appeared to be asleep at the meeting he was at. Maybe that's why he didn't raised the concerns that he was supposedly going to address about how the footage was being used and the message that was going with it.

Yep and then a day or so later he started doing it again, he (Peters ) totally capitulated and the trip was a complete and utter waste of time and money

Here you go Guy. If Peter's didn't say it himself our PM did.
A diplomatic upset is brewing after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said any Australians or New Zealanders who came to Turkey with anti-Muslim sentiments would be sent back in a coffin "like your grandfathers were" during the WWI Gallipoli campaign. "Our Deputy Prime Minister will be confronting those comments in Turkey," Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told reporters today in Christchurch.

Yeah apparently when he appeared to be nodding off during Erdogan's speech and at other times during the meeting he was actually fully focused and aware of the proceedings.

The criticism he has received has been totally uncalled for ... :uhoh:

As in, boots and all.

the full story regarding what was said and when, along with what was accomplished seems to be a lot more involved than what the esteemed NZ media are reporting.

Care to comment on that?
How do/would you know that, you doing a bit of reading between the lines adding 2 + 2 and coming up with the square root of Pi? You’re doing a Winnie in defending Winnie...”I know thing you don’t so don’t question me...”

I tend towards Guy's view but can see the other side too. Anyhoo it all seems pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme. I have been much more interested in the Greens determination to politicize this massacre. Can't help but feel they are alienating themselves from moderate potential voters and pushing them towards Labour much in the way Turei did at the last election. Time will tell I guess.

I hadn't picked up on this, what have the Greens been up to?

As for Winston I'll leave it at this.

Our PM told us he was going to Turkey to 'confront' Erdogan's comments. When he arrived there he didn't, appearing to back down. Quite frankly I don't blame him. Not much value in blowing this up into a bigger diplomatic incident than it already is. But it was still an apparent back down by Peters.

He was asleep during the meeting which, whilst a tad embarrassing, you can't blame the poor old chap after such a long flight to a different timezone etc. The speeches were probably really boring too. I think we can all relate. I've certainly been there, done that.

So David Seymour, desperate to court the votes of disaffected gun owners, had been wanting to force the Government to use urgency to pass the new gun control legislation. Unfortunately he was late to the house because he was too busy talking himself up to media.

It kind of reminds me of David Lange's line about Winston Peters who he famously said "would have been with us today if he hadn't been detained by a full-length mirror".
