I was musing the other day when out on a ride whether some form of ACC-like insurance for such events (droughts, floods, tsunami, etc.) is needed for business continuity. At the moment it very loosely exists because the government / taxpayer steps in, but it's all last minute, all rather arbitrary, businesses can't plan for it because the conditions and benefits aren't clear etc.

Would it be better to levy businesses, or just pay from general taxation as that's where the current cost comes from, and create an all-inclusive scheme that pays out in a pre-understood way when extraordinary events threaten to wipe out swatches of businesses?

A mate of mine's a repo guy in Auckland. If anyone raises an eyebrow he just goes M8, if you don't have repo, you don't have credit.

I used to say something similar in the bank (to my bosses).

If I don't have any bad debts it means I am not lending.

Outstanding. And against all the odds my mum made it as well. 78, career smoker, advanced dementia, wheelchair / bed bound, etc. Initial fever, tested +ve, isolated for a couple of weeks but no more symptoms, now back in the mixed areas in the care home.
  Great news. Chuffed for you guys.

Is low the missing word here?

I think he's just saying this lockdown should squash the flu as well.

Right, fixed in that case. Yes with continued isolation plus social distancing that should be the case. Plus I think they've dished out more flu vaccines than normal this year.

Nah it's all good. Plod was on RNZ this morning saying their data showed no rise other than an initial blip at the start of lockdown.

Doesn't square with my daughter's mate's experience as an ambulance paramedic, but hey ho.

We certainly have the right conditions for a record low. Record numbers of people taking up the Flu vaccine, and doing it early. Lock down restricting the normal spread, and a much improved awareness of infectious control in the general population for one lock down is over.

So shouldn’t be added as a new case, just deduct one from the recovered column?

Part of the Marist group but not tested originally. Part of 200 Marist kids to get tested prior to heading back to school I think they said.

Prisoner voting is more important to them than violence against women.

The funny bit was watching him desperately trying to stop Smith reading his letter content out.

They are both work progressed by the Justice Select Committee where one item was delayed due to the emergency and the other was not.

Personally as a right winger I welcome full voting rights for all prisoners. It's long overdue and fairly shocking that we haven't been allowing them to vote in the past.

The election is not for months and the covid adds keep going on about domestic violence during lock down.

Do you not see any inconsistentancy in their priorities?
