With the Vikings screwing up a home SB chance this year...can the Falcons become the first team to play in a home SB next year?

^^^

It was, he had his left foot down BEFORE he dragged it out.

You only saw it on the replay from the left (touchline side).
The left foot dragged up some dirt (or crumb rubber?) from the astroturf.
That foot finally finished up straddling the line, but it was down beforehand.

It wasn't mentioned in commentary, but they were too busy twisting their knickers over the "Catch Rule", but it was clearly visible.
I reckon that's why it was given.

And besides, Patriots can go Tuck (Rule) themselves.

The ball is not secured though.

Based on the calls they overturned against Austin Sefarian-Jenkins and Kelvin Benjamin then I don't see how it's a TD using that standard.

Apparently Gronk's house was broken into while the game was on.

http://www.espn.co.uk/nfl/story/_/id/22 ... gronkowski

Police are investigating a break-in at the home of New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski in Foxborough, Massachusetts, they confirmed Tuesday morning.
In a recording of the call Monday between responding officers and dispatch, a dispatcher said, "multiple safes and possibly guns" were taken.
Foxborough Police Chief William Baker on Tuesday would not say when the robbery happened or what was taken from the house, but he did say that Gronkowski was away at Super Bowl LII when the break-in occurred.
"There were items stolen," Baker told reporters Tuesday morning. "We're not going to release the nature of the items stolen.

Police are refusing to say what was stolen - so I'm guessing it was the Donald Trümp Sex Tape

This is breaking news. Colts had a press conference setup for tomorrow to announce McDaniels as the new head coach, and McDaniels has chosen at the last minute to stay with New England after they made an aggressive push to keep him.

Two options:
-Belichick actually is retiring
-Belichick is sticking around for 2018 but is not long for coaching, and McDaniels is heir apparent

This is most likely.

Sucks for the Colts who were looking forward to a returning Andrew Luck, poosibly Barkley in the draft a great offensive at coach.

Back to the drawing board - with most of the good coaches already off the market.

A certain irony for the Chiefs.
They didn't think they had a QB who could win the Superbowl so they traded up to get Mahomes will now start him having traded away Alex Smith.

The irony is that a month before they drafted Mahomes they released their backup QB - a certain Nick Foles

McDaniels got dropped by his agent for breaking his word.

Meanwhile with the draft still some weeks away the Key & Peele award for best name has already been sewn up by Equanimeous St. Brown of Notre Dame.

Enormous money for a basically unproven guy. Hard to judge him based on the limited amount of play he has actually had but he's undoubtedly very promising so I guess you've got to roll the dice and pay whatever if you are the 49ers.

The hype has certainly been heavy for a guy who managed only 7 TDs in 6 games and threw 5 picks. Kevin Patra's piece on NFL.com seems to be anointing him the second coming of Joe Montana already.

Still, a resurgent 49ers is a good thing for the league. The NFL West should be all about SF vs LA not those second tier Seahawks and Cardinals. :P

I'm afraid of how much money Matt Ryan is going to demand now. I'm hoping he might give a little hometown discount ala Brady to allow them maybe go get some free agents.

The cap is massive btw. Rodgers could get an enormous contract.

The QB market is just one stupid Jacob's Ladder, with each guy off contract saying "well I'm better than that bloke last bloke who got the highest contract, so you're going to have to pay me more than him". Some decidedly average QBs get embarrassingly overpaid.

The market will set the table. Garopollo just signed the most expensive contract in NFL history and he has he started less than 10 games. Ryan and Rodger's agents will blow this deal out of the water.

It's always cheaper to try and get in early and extend, especially before the cap blows out. And teams start throwing around silly contracts. Matt Staffords contract now looks cheap for example and signed that in August.

I want one gm to have the balls to go with either a rookie contract or hall of famer. So when the Dalton, Cutler or Smith comes for the 20 mill say good luck and draft. And keep drafting until a stud turns up.

It'll never happen but would be a great experiment.

Funny old career for Jimmy G so far, a couple of SuperBowl rings and a monster contract for sitting on the bench in NE and being competent for a few games in SF.

Frank Reich unveiled as new head coach of the Colts. Asked if he hated or loved Josh McDaniels for what he did Reich said "The back-up role has served me well in my career". Almost as good a comeback as his one against Houston in '93.

Can't help thinking the Colts have got a better coach in Reich than they would have had in McDaniels.

Article on how the Browns coud affect the entire NFL during this Free Agency and Draft.

Toys with a few scenarios such as:

Scenario

The Browns double down on the contract the 49ers gave Jimmy Garoppolo by not only making Kirk Cousins the NFL's richest player but also front-loading the deal with enough bonus money to choke off any other bidders. They then cavort through the draft stuffing their pockets with an All-America team to surround Cousins with affordable young talent.

Who it impacts

Every team that covets Cousins, most notably the Broncos. Every team jockeying for position to draft a rookie quarterback or expecting a Saquon Barkley or Minkah Fitzpatrick to fall to them because everyone else is jockeying for quarterbacks. Every team that someday hopes to sign or extend a quarterback without resorting to multiple seasons of eating the salary-cap equivalent of ramen noodles. Yep, that covers the entire NFL.

The skinny

There's a lot of wisdom to this scenario for the Browns. Cousins takes the onus of quarterback development off a front office and coaching staff eager for some immediate results. With Cousins as a stabilizing influence, a strong draft class could make the Browns competitive in a hurry. And the Browns are so flush with cash that they can sign Cousins and still have cap room for appetizers and dessert in free agency.

The league-wide implications of this scenario are staggering. Right now, the Garoppolo deal is a white elephant, a one-of-a-kind contract that reflects a unique set of circumstances. If Cousins signs a similar-but-larger deal, it sends the entire quarterback market into the upper ionosphere. The price of a Case Keenum automatically shoots up, further frustrating veteran-seekers like the Broncos. Whole economic textbooks will be written to explain how the Packers and Falcons can extend Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan. Drew Brees may end up with his own listing on the NASDAQ.

In summary, the Browns could sign a second-tier (by most accounts) quarterback, set themselves up for an 8-8 season and destabilize the entire NFL salary structure in the process.

"The Kansas City Chiefs will receive a 2018 fourth-round pick and a 2019 second-round pick from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for cornerback Marcus Peters and a 2018 sixth-round pick"

KC trade away stroppy, but brilliant, Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters to the Rams for a packet of Cheesy Wotsits and some dry roast nuts.
KC fan site had over 1,500 fan comments by last night, virtually all of them variations on the theme of WTF!!!

High profile players starting to get Franchise Tagged but one of them, Jarvis Landry, is understood to be available for trade.

Roger Goodell expected to fine Jerry Jones several Million Dollars over costs incurred defending the Ezekiel Elliot suspension

And the Combine starts today - so watch out for the speedy WR who jumps from 4th round to 1st round on the basis of a 40y dash.

Some players I like in this draft. Most of them are pretty obvious.

Quenton Nelson - a pure animal of a man. I
Minkah Fitzpatrick - playmaker, versatile
Saquon Barkely - home run, big play guy
Derwin James - was probably better a freshman when he just jumped out as a special talent. Still very good though
Derrious Juice - underrated as Barkley takes the limelight. But comes from a RB rich program and runs hard. Very productive
Christian Kirk - he has always been the standout player whenever I've seem A&M play. The best WR in the draft for me

I think you can see the problems with Peters without delving too far into it. He was a problem in college and thrown off the team. That's pretty hard to do when you are talented.

And he's clearly been a head case in KC. The owner probably wouldn't ok him resigning so they tried to get what they could for him. Which wasn't much tbf.

McGlinchey will be a bust if he’s drafted in the 1st as a franchise LT. The 2nd round or lower as a RT and he will be a serviceable player.

Rosen might be the most polarizing guy in years. He could be anything but the team fit will be massive. A small market team with less cameras in his face will be much better. The Jets would be a disaster.
