Point is that you and luckycharmer are full of crap when you state that Kearney was some sort of man mountain in defence. Great positioning and under the high ball, but heart of a lion in a tackle he wasn't

Keenan is pretty bang averageSalanya wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 3:42 pmOr maybe just keep him on the wing, where he can at least learn to defend with a line as his friend.
There's no doubt he is a great attacker, but moving him about isn't going to fix the defensive issues that we already knew about.
Put Keenan at fullback and Stockdale back on the wing.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
McCloskey looking good. Gives us that extra ballast.
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
The difference is that Stockdale is equally poor in defense, but is also poor positionally.Willie Falloon wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 3:50 pmPoint is that you and luckycharmer are full of crap when you state that Kearney was some sort of man mountain in defence. He has the potential to be a great 15, but defense will always be a worry.

Anyway, TMO needs to learn the rules of a forward pass.
If the hands go back it isn't forward. That is the clearly stated in World rugby laws.

McCloskey is playing well, fair play to him

So your point is that Stockdale is allowed a howler because a Leinster guy had one 10 years ago. Is that your point?

This is why I hate the TMO anyway.
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
We're making hard work of this.
Stockdale isn't within an asses roar of being a FB. If an U 14 FB bought a dummy like he did he'd be hoiked; and he's been badly out of position defensively a few times. Unlucky that the forward pass was called, but if he'd just passed to Earls instead of kicking we'd have had another try.
Bealham is getting done over in the scrum, but then again he is a TH playing LH - why ?
And too much white line fever as well.

Just popped in to have a read through the comments to see it dominated by Ulster fan boys frothing at the mouth over Stockdale. He's been fine but nothing more. Let's not forget who the opposition is.
McCloskey is doing quite well though.

Ferris says Stockdale should have made the tackle Willie.

Beirne is actually more at fault for that Georgia try

Not sure yet if he's the answer, but he's good positionally and defensively, and good in attack too.
We'll see how he develops, but he's better than 'bang average'.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
McCloskey is a hugely underated player. Always gets the better of Aki when Connacht come to town, but never gets selected ahead of him.
It's a joke that he hasn't played for Ireland during the past 2 or 3 seasons when he Ulsters best performer (alongside Coetzee)
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
In a pub full of fans who know nothing maybe but the laws are quite clear these days and it was simply not a forward pass regardless of which team threw it.
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
The FBs job is to tackle the man with the ball and force him to make a decision, and trust if he does pass the cover will be there.Willie Falloon wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 3:57 pm Beirne is actually more at fault for that Georgia try
And that's been the FBs job since I were a lad, which wasn't today or yesterday.
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Stockdale had Burns inside him, absolutely had to take the outside man. If the pass had gone and he had hit the ball carrier most on here would still be hanging him out to dry.Mullet 2 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 3:54 pmYou lads brought up Kearney not us you loonWillie Falloon wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 3:50 pmPoint is that you and luckycharmer are full of crap when you state that Kearney was some sort of man mountain in defence. Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Ireland very greedy close to the try line.
Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
I don't think there was anything wrong with that pass at all.
And Willie's right in that Beirne is the first person at fault for the Georgian try, he lets the Georgian player with the slight block stop him from getting to the ball carrier.
