Nolanator wrote:From the main PR site. Didn't know that there were worries of him needing an operation.

reland team manager Michael Kearney has confirmed that Luke Fitzgerald may be available for their second match in the Six Nations.

Fitzgerald was omitted from Declan Kidney's 32-man squad named ahead of Sunday's opener against Wales, as he recovers from a neck injury.

But Kearney revealed that the 24-year-old utility back could return to the side for the clash with France in Paris on February 11.

"Luke has a neck injury - an issue with a disk - and has been out longer than initially anticipated," he said.

"He's improving and we're hopeful that he'll be available for selection within the next week or two but there's no definitive timeline on his recovery. It's a case of monitoring it and seeing how it progresses.

"He's back doing light training with Leinster and our information is that he won't need an operation," added Kearney.

Edit, f**king quote function is different. :x
Good that he's back, but I dont think he'll be in the frame for the France game if he's only in light training at the moment,i doubt Kidney will parachute him into a match day squad unless we have an injury crisis, will probably call him into the extended squad alright though.

I can't understand how DOC could be ahead of Ryan. He's been fantastic this year.

This place will be quite interesting if he does start. (Unless the new bored has mellowed everybody out.)

Experience I suppose.

Deccie's probably quietly angling for a slam this season tbh, and he's not going to take many risks. Bar France, everyone's very vulnerable.

Experience is always a plus but there comes a time when it's outweighed by form. Ryan has showed plenty of aggression and ability this season and despite his aggression hasn't given away many penalties that I can think of.

We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

Chairman Deccie's an odd one. Reading DOC's autobiography (it was a present. And they didn't get me Leo's ffs.) you get the impression he's never had a great relationship with Kidney, so it's somewhat curious. Then again, Kidney coached them all in that World Youth Cup win way back when.

I suppose he thinks DOC and POC are more likely to beat their opponents with their partnership. After all Wales' pack seems a bit wonked at the moment.

Ryan wasn't in any of the photos on Inpho so I'm not reading anything into it right now.

Apparently a poster on lf.com saw the backs training.

9. Murray
10. Sexton
11. Trimble
12. D'Arcy
13. McFadden
14. Bowe
15. Kearney

Usual health warning, could be bullshit.

I'd be happy enough with that backline. Hopefully Murray does the business. I'll still be very surprised if Earls doesn't make it.

No O'Brien in that photo either.
I cant see how, based on the past month in particular Ryan is behind DOC. DOC had an ok game v Saints, fronted up as he always does, but Ryan has been a powerhouse, and when we struggled so bad to get go forward ball in WC, why not have an actual carrying option in 2nd row.

I know Tuohy (where ever Earl is) but Ryan has to start

I refuse to believe anyone other then Earls will be involved at 13

Would be shit if DOC crept ahead of DOC but, at least DOC consistently ups his game for Ireland. I'd be more worried about D'Arcy and McFadden in the centre. They aren't even great at provincial level and neither are int. quality centres.

In Kidney we trust!!

You are shitting me? They are actually alright in depth for backrow, its nearly everywhere else.

Even if they release Ofisa, they have Muldoon, Nauopu, O'Connor, McKeon, Grace, Anderson and McCarthy at a stretch

A bit of a head scratcher in that regard. I can only assume some players are getting cut loose.

I had heard Parks alright,I think Jackman said something about that,Rush would be a huge signing, probably have to go with a coaching role in mind, won't believe Rush until I see him in a Connacht jersey,he has form, just ask Earl.

I suppose so, but again with Muldoon isnt going anywhere and Naupou and McKeon are both tied into contracts, so its not an 8 they need. Unless Naupou is going back to Japan.
Rush in any case is a busted flush.

Dire need of 9/10/2/3/ and some depth in back line.
I heard a rumour of Tom Gleeson going up there. Not sure if there is anything in it, just a Cork Con lad who I used to go to college with said it in passing few weeks back

I can see a bit of a clear out in Munster squad, we have 48 players on the books. Gleeson, Dineen, MOD, Holland, Fogarty could well be gone.
