Interesting how many English players are high up in the tackle counts of both years. The evaluation of France and the lack of Irish, all seem to be pointing that defensive rugby has the advantage over to possession based rugby at the moment, surprise, surprise. Interesting how Ireland play this esp as we are decent at the breakdown and what seem to be more of an advantage towards the breakdown with the current law interruption.
Not surprising really. England are perfectly happy in defense and will feed off opposition mistakes. When your D is as well-drilled as theirs it's actually quite a conservative approach. NZ/Crusaders used to play a similar enough game, particularly with Wayne Smith whose teams were always at their best off turnover ball. Total opposite to Joe Schmidt's possession-based game which has kind of fallen out of favour.
If flametop is not happy with how we play he should watch England play, they play a bit like Sarries now kick everything inside their own half and if nothing happens within a couple of phases they kick the ball. They bully teams with their defence which is actually offensive.
England play very smart. They've worked hard on their transition play (look at May's try against us) and they're fairly clinical with the opportunities they do have. They're way ahead of us in these areas apart from also being able to bully us up front. But they don't overplay their hand when they don't have to. The team that has fared best against them recently is France and France are probably the most different side to Ireland in the 6Ns right now in terms of how they play.
France are also the only other team in the 6ns that have the power to match England.

True enough.

Although I felt our pack matched theirs reasonably well last time out. It was their superior playmakers (as well as a few costly Irish errors) that won it for them.

Very happy with that team. I think it's a pack to link play with the backs and fook up the Welsh breakdown, knowing that the Taffs don't have the muscle to overpower them. There are some carriers there in Killer, Ryan and CJ, but it's more a pack to keep the ball alive with, which is exactly what we need to find out what the hell Catt exactly wants our attack to be like.

It was their defence that killed us, we were going backwards ball in hand. Huge double hits even porter was being rag dolled. It is similar to when Leinster play Sarries they just bully us on the gainline.
They didn't really create anything, Mays try was Brillant individually and he beat Keenan in the air for the other one. It was better than the last few times where there chips/short kicking game we really f*cked up. Stockdale twice, Johnny once.

I mean France. Our pack matched France. England is a different story. Our lads shit the bed against England nowadays. Too many fresh wounds between recent games, Saracens etc.

Will all be revealed at 12, much of muchness between Burns and Ross. Burns more likely to make a break, Ross more likely to nail a crucial kick.

True France have lots of X factor players Dupont, Thomas, Vakatama is a big loss for them. Think we have a good chance against them, Scotland beat them last 6ns. If France ever sorted out their discipline they could match England.

So

Healy, Kelleher, Furlong, Henderson and Ruddock to come off the bench?

That would be fairly animal

Just cause Leavy looked good against a ragged Scarlets side doesn't mean he's back.

I’d be a bit surprised and disappointed if that’s the team. Agreed on the backrow, three good individual players but collectively they’re underpowered and rely too much on CJ to carry , we saw enough evidence of that in 2019. Lowe starting would be a strange one given his lack of gametime, he must be showing a lot better than Larmour in training if this is legit.
