Jackman said later in this that he has heard speculation that Andrew Porter will start at 1, with Healy on the bench at 18 vs the Bulls.
At 18 as in TH? With Vakh playing for the development side it does look like it, no?
Unless Porter is at 18.

Any thoughts on whether flannery and french will be better than their respective brothers ?

Am I right in thinking James french at loosehead ? Cian Hurley certainly could be a prospect as a big lump.

I think Crowley and Patterson could get a good few minutes in proWhateverAndSaffers this year. Kelly and EOC are undoubtedly big enough whether they’ve elite aspects will be seen

Wow, obviously not a neutral party but that's seriously high praise. Best schools player he's seen in 20 years (so basically since Gordon D'arcy), the complete package, does things other players can't, wins games on his own etc etc etc. Apparently he's already impressing over at Bristol. How can you as a Leinster fan not be depressed at the thought of a player like that who came up through the system plying his trade elsewhere. Especially when added to the list of other players heading the same way.

It is depressing alright . The only consolation is that he’ll be playing under a top coach in Pat Lam and a set up that promotes rugby played the right way . Hopefully he’ll be back with us in a couple of years as a much better player

Most depressing aspect is that all they had to do was offer him an academy contract but their insistence on the sub academy backfired and not for the first time.

Sean n dara french are brothers I’m fairly sure. Sean looked a potential star at schools but I think there’s a lot of defensive issues in his game. Prob more suited to wing. Kinda hope pro level coaching might get him there. I saw a lot of him at schools as I knew someone on that pres team.

Alan flannery Is jakes brother.

A little odd but competing against Itoje and the captain was always going to be tough. Lawes was also one of the better performing players on tour. It's tough for Hendo but hopefully, no less than Ryan, he can channel that frustration into a great season with Ireland. At least they won't be overly fatigued.
I think there was room to rotate him in to the side. Gatland messed up the second test selection. Should have replaced more of the pack and had his first choice pack fresher for the third test.
Gatland's unwillingness to rotate the squad was a concern both in this series and back in New Zealand.
He only made 2 changes in the pack of that entire series (Itoje for Kruis and Warburton for POM) both after the first Test hammering.

Look back to the previous series in Oz where there were changes right through the series in the pack:
Fresh Hooker & Corbisiero back from injury at LH.
Parling replaced POC & Lydiate for Croft in the 2nd.
SOB in for an injured Warburton and Faletau in for Heaslip.
The two Jones boyos (Adam & Alun-Wyn) were the only forwards to start all three games.

Selection in subsequent series seemed to become paralysed.

No, he got fit again about this time last year and was apparently going to feature on the bench for Ulster as a 19 YO (he's a hooker) but got injured again, then missed the u20 6 nations in the summer and picked up something during the summer.

Top tier prospect.

Interesting selection. Bench front row is the stronger one it would appear - who is Brad Roberts?
Great to see Doak involved. Is Madigan injured, or has Lowry overtaken him in the pecking order for 10s?
Brad is the ginger mullet genius
Doak hopefully will be ahead of Shananhan most of the season
I would imagine Madigan will see little game time this year

Newman is English qualified, and bizarrely, has already represented Chile in u18's rugby? Easy to see him slipping away from the Irish set up. I don't read Spanish but one of the linked tweets seems to say he's the son of a former Chilean player, can't be many of those playing pro.

if they slate the competition as much as they did the pro12/14/16 then the league doesn't stand much chance.

By that logic you could question every other team’s participation in the league as they all have a vastly inferior head to head record against us in recent years . Having said that the Bulls should be beating us tomorrow given our first team is going into this unprepared while the Bulls are coming straight off a successful Currie Cup campaign. The league really needs the SA sides to take the competition seriously , if not then I’m not sure where we go from here

Johne Murphy, more like....
Not having seen this kid play - actually I might have watched that Michaels game but can't remember - it seems wildly premature to make declarations like that.

BBC Norn Iron covers rugby with far more enthusiasm than RTÉ.

If the bulls get beat by 10-15 pts then what is the point of these South Africans
that would be best for the league.
with the partnership structure the Sharks have with Jay-Z roc nation, it will be interesting to see how they go - as someone pointed out, with the value of the rand, they bought/part bought the sharks for the salary of a mid level NBA player - we all enjoy a laugh at teh yanks but fcuk it, if they brighten things up and figure out a way to get bums on seats then why not ?

Watched it not bad, what station is the Ulster match on can't see it anywhere. Interestingly heard that Jordi said that one of the reasons they didn't kick on last year was they weren't fit enough.

Can't really judge the Saffa teams till the BOKS are allowed to play for them after the rugby championship.

Newman is English qualified, and bizarrely, has already represented Chile in u18's rugby? Easy to see him slipping away from the Irish set up. I don't read Spanish but one of the linked tweets seems to say he's the son of a former Chilean player, can't be many of those playing pro.

Talk about hype, IRUA never told us about the English qualification so his agent was probally touting him out and than wonder did they put a gun to Leinsters head going sign him or else.

Thornley does make a very valid point about the gnarly imported forward.
We lost two of them due to the pandemic, and probably lost the 19/20 NTHCSBH to it as well.
