***Official Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014 Thread***

Post by eldanielfire »

Opening ceremony on Wednesday, proper start on Thursday. Should be fun.

There is an element of many storylines coming in. Australia's swim team is desperate to un-shame itself after London 2012 and the aftermath. Potentially tension between England and Scotland with the "FREEDOM" vote coming up and Salmon and Cameron likely to be desperate parasites on any athletes success. I'm expecting Chris Hoy to be shown every day and the Beckham's to do their usual parasitic appearances now both their main careers are over despite having nothing to do with a commonwealth event ever.

Anyways I predict England to dominate Athletics, Oz swimming, England Cycling, England Boxing, England Judo. Wales would dominate the women's triathlon but virtually all fo them have gone injured :( The Netball and Rugby Sevens should be very competitive.

Would have been close between Jenkins and Stimpson, given Stanford has been off for a while.

Stimpson should win on current form with good chance for Hall and Holland to also get medals. The Aus girl whose name escapes me has been doing well and will be up there for a medal. She is a tactical bugger who likes sitting on the back of the bike group and doing very little work though.

Good chance in the mens to get an English 1,2 with Saffers Richard Murray the clearest challenger if he can get through the swim close to the Brownlee's as he is one of the strongest runners.

Why not? Theoretically It could be hosted by Douglas or St Helier or even somewhere utterly ridiculous like Swansea

Pathetic mocker god work. Australia are NAILED ON to top the medal table which they always do. Britain is slip into 4 to allow other nations a chance like the gentlemen (and women) we are. It would be a MASSIVE CHOKE if Oz didn't top the table considering they always do for the past couple of decades.

For the Brits, the Rugby 7s are on Freeview Red Button 301/302 on Saturday and the knockout phases are on BBC3 & BBC1 on Sunday.

Didn't realize they'd had to do this much work on Ibrox for the rugby 7s
Work to extend the pitch, carried out by Glasgow 2014 in collaboration with Rangers Football Club and local contractors, involved raising the surface of areas at both ends of the park by 600mm by covering the existing track with membrane and new boards and then infilling with sand. The new turf was laid on top.

The rugby posts were then put in place, completing the transformation ahead of the stadium hosting the Rugby Sevens competition on Saturday July 26, and Sunday July 27. Before the posts could go up, the existing undersoil heating had to be cut and re-routed and the pitch dug up to accommodate the 2 cubic meters of concrete for each post.

Overall it was good, but suffice to say there was one part where Mrs W was moved to suggest that all that was missing was Mary Doll.

looks like Bradley Wiggins is using the Commonwealths to re-launch himself as a track cyclist and he seems to be indicating that is his goal for Rio 2016. Also Dwain Chambers has pulled out.

Absolute disaster for Malaysia as the sbooting gold medalist isn't allowed to compete as she forget her shooting jacket.

Personally I think she took 1 look and Dundee and thought "fudge that! Keep your medals!"

Isn't the shooting at Carnoustie?

Had to take it as far away from the weegies.
