Watched the Brannagh Murder on the Orient Express.

Thought it was good, if very costumey and distracting with the roll call of actors.
Easy to watch at least and some of the cinematography is pretty.
6/10.

The Hunt.
B movie crap, not boring, but really not great.
Betty Gilpen is fun though and isn't bad on the eyes at all.
4.5/10.

Jeruzalem - found footage flick out of 2015, and yes with all the worse aspects of the filming style. Interesting plot, loved the final "biblical" view, but to be honest was tad bored at stages. 5/10, view if into end times cinema, but get ready for lots of shaky cam/glasses

Not really. A convoluted, bland mess.
Pattinson's alright, Washington's alright.
Boring roles for the both of them really.

The Kid Detective is good.
Shane Black style detective movie though a bit more morose.

The Dig is on Netflix, bit slow and probabaly a reflection of lockdown being how we enjoyed seeing Lord Voldermort digging up an anglo saxon boat on a Friday night.

I was really looking forward to it. Since December I’ve watched half of it, over about four sittings, having had to recap half of that half. Disappointing.

Yeah, it's a stinker.

Watched Collateral for the first time, Tom Cruise is great in it, though it definitely bitched out with the ending.

Anyone happen to watch Salem's Lot recently? Gave me the serious heebie jeebies when I was a nipper. Thinking about watching it again, but worried that it might end up like eating spam again after a couple of decades.

The issue with it was the story started off great and Fiennes had awards in his eyes.
Spoiler: show
Then inexplicably they veer away from the relationship between him and the land owner lady and we don't see him for about 45 minutes. I got a bit of a jolt when he turned up again. They focus on Lily James and her husband and some air force Dude love triangle bollox.
They don't even show her arse or anything.

Decent spoilering there
Yes. The first half was a great setup for the rest of the movie, but it fizzled out.

Re watched Lady Bird with the mrs.

Good god I don't understand why critics were creaming themselves over it.
A glossy, by the numbers coming of age movie, but utterly lacking anything approaching an edge.

Maybe the young, artsy world doesn't get me striver kid story makes a certain type feel fuzzy but it makes me gag.

1/3 of the way into The News of the World. Very enjoyable.

Found this on youtube. The Sea Wolves. Basically the Wild Geese cast resurrected.

Brooklyn was a similar movie like this.

Two Ronan movies, but I actually quite like her (and I don't want to set the Swarm off).

I quite liked Ladybird though, but I hated Timothy Chalemet's character and find the guy from Manchester By The Sea to be a creepy screen presence - so maybe that was the edge for me. ;)

I really like that Blade Runner film but I was working at Weta Digi when it won Best Visual Effects over the third Apes film.

EverReady wrote: Thu Mar 11, 2021 11:02 pm Watched that Sound of Metal thing. Pretty good. The script and some of the story is a bit ho hum and telegraphed but Riz Ahmed is pretty brilliant in it. He plays some drummer lad whose hearing goes. He ends up in some sort of religiously run deaf community learning to be deaf. Lot of montages and working as groups. Having once visited Boystown in America it's weird and a bit creepy like there. I think Americans think that is good. Anyway it's about him finding himself and that's grand. It would be very average only he is so good in it. To be honest he is a tiny bit let down by the direction and script as he gave it his all.
So it's basically It's all gone Pete Tong but without the Coke Badger and dance music?

She's a very good actor and the film has a lot of very good performances (her's included).
But the film itself feels generic. A better film would have been one seen from the perspective of her best friend, who she treats like dirt, or from her parents.
You're meant to be onside with Ronan's character when she's actually fairly obnoxious and unremarkable.

Dunno. That would have been Workshop rather than Digital and it's a separate company. BR's effects were good and the Sean Young digi double was better than other attempts like Rogue One's and admittedly it's easier to do non Human digi characters as the Uncanny Valley doesn't affect them as much but the Weta made Apes films are an outstanding achievement. Making the lead character in a photo realistic film entirely CGI is bloody hard to do successfully.

To my post above, the CGI chimp is more realistic than anything in Justice League.

They're good films, and Andy Serkis is pretty awesome in the mo cap role.

Nah, not really. I know Weta Digi did some aspects of it (from memory they did the historic battle scenes when the invaders were defeated) but most was done elsewhere. I suspect it's a combination of Snyder having some odd notions of what looks kewl and limitations on time & budget.
