Honda are reportedly willing to fork out 30 million euro to get Fernando Alonso out of his Ferrari contract and lure him to McLaren.

McLaren Group CEO Ron Dennis has openly admitted that he would love to re-sign Alonso for the 2015 season when their partnership with Honda comes into effect.

Despite constant denials from both Ferrari and Alonso that the two-time World Champion will remain at Maranello next year, the Spaniard's future remains one of the most-talked about subjects in the paddock.

Yeah, there's also the persistant rumour that they want Hamilton back. I hope for their sake they only get one or the other.....

First look at the Honda unit:

http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/177145.html

It appears to be conventional and not the Merc split setup, which seems strange. Maybe it's an early prototype and the final version will be different, or perhaps they've come up with some other clever design feature.

No piccies yet. I would be willing to bet that Honda come up with something pretty special given their history

You would think the Mercs would have started serious work on next years car bofore the rest of them. McLaren are still bolting on new bits for this years car.

Both will be developing next year and this year at the same time. McLaren will be hoping to gain some benefits from being a single Honda partner around packaging next years car and engine more efficiently

They do normally stop to concentrate on next years car. Although this time round there are not going to be so many changes so maybe they don't have to. I've had a look and the only team to formally announce they have given up on this years to concentrate on next year is Lotus.

if you're still in contention for anything you'll keep the development going. In the case of Merc, as you say next year may not involve that many serious changes, so it will likely be more of an evolution. If McLaren and Honda re doing their thing right then there will be much bigger changes; the shape and layout of the engine alone should drive some of those.

Caterham in Financial trouble...

http://thejudge13.com/
Caterham’s doors closed in Leafield

TJ13 was informed this afternoon that Bailiffs and the Police were called to the Leafield site, the home of Caterham F1. The staff were instructed to turn off the servers and leave the premises immediately.

This follows previous visits both last week and this from the Bailiffs, who were seeking on Monday to arrange for the removal of the autoclave. Old Lotus framed shirts were removed from the premises today.

John Iley informed sceptical staff to return as normal tomorrow, when the problems would be ‘ironed out’.

TJ13 reported an emergency meeting of the staff of Caterham was held on Monday, where it was repeated again that the problems the team were facing were due to ‘surprises’ (unpaid bills) left behind by the previous owner Tony Fernandes.

Apparently the Caterham team owe an 8 digit sum to a range of suppliers, mainly Renault and Red Bull for engine and gear box supply.

The 2013 cars were removed from the facility on Monday, though the mainstream media were informed this was to facilitate an F1 demonstration in Jerusalem. One concerned member of staff questioned whether this was in fact true, as show events require the attendance of just one car.

The race team were reportedly fed by other teams during the Singapore GP weekend, though no clear explanation for this has emerged.

Of course, were the Caterham outfit to fold, and a new team lined up to enter Formula One in the future – say offer, 10 pence in the pound for the assets of the company, this would be a most cost effective manner of acquiring the necessary equipment and even Intellectual Property for the 2015 car, to eventually go racing.

The mysterious nature of the new ‘Swiss based Arab’ investors has led those with questioning minds to believe not all was well with the alleged sale of the business by Fernandes before Silverstone.

Caterham Team Principal Manfredi Ravetto asserted at the Singapore GP that the new investors wished to remain anonymous because they had no interest in publicity, just ‘making a profit’. Formula One teams on the brink of collapse and due no monies for next year from FOM – do not fit this profile.

It has been suggested to TJ13 that in fact the formal transfer of the shares in the company which holds the racing license for Caterham F1 was never completed, due to disagreements over whether the debts of the team should be paid up by Fernandes or the new owners.

Should the team be wound up, it is convenient that there is no one publicly to hold to account. Fernandes claims to have sold the business but to whom we do not know.

Meantime, Kolles has been forcing ahead the development of the 2015 car, such that the tub has been designed and is good to go.

UPDATE

Caterham issued the following statement this evening

“There have been unfounded and unsubstantiated rumours concerning actions against 1MRT, the entrant and owner of CaterhamF1.

An action was threatened yesterday against a supplier company to 1MRT. This company is not owned by 1MRT and it has no influence over the entry of CaterhamF1 or the entrant.

Also contrary to uncontrolled rumours, all operations are currently in place at Leafield and the race team is doing its preparation in Japan.”

What Caterham say is technically true and they pulled this same stunt over the staff redundancy claims. The company which holds the racing license is a shell company, and is used for nothing else other than to hold the F1 entrant documents. There were other companies in the Caterham group structure under Fernandes where the factory assets sat along with the liabilities left by Fernandes.

This all adds to the confusion over which company(ies) was/were actually sold by Fernandes, and whether or not that sale of all the Caterham assets and liabilities were completely transferred.

Further, tonight a Croydon based company who are “High Court Enforcement Officers (HCEO’s) have tonight placed the following information on their website.

“By order of The Sheriffs Office, authorised High Court Enforcement Officers, we hereby announce the impending sale of goods seized and removed from a Formula One team.

The goods include but are not limited to:

Caterham F1 test car (2013)
Caterham F1 car parts (due for Japan 2014)
Full size 6 DOF motion platform F1 simulator
Caterham F1 steering wheels
F1 wheels with tyres
High quality drilling & machining equipment
Caterham & Lotus F1 memorabilia
Various pit lane equipment including jacks, pumps and starters
TVs, monitors and other goods and equipment
We can confirm the goods have been removed from the Leafield enforcement address and are in secure storage.

The goods are to be sold by public auction to the highest bidder.

Sale by private treaty may be permissible with leave of the court.

The date and location of the sale are yet to be confirmed but early indications are mid-October at a UK location. Interested parties should contactauctions@thesheriffsoffice.com to register their interest”.

Caterham pledge to race in Japan Grand Prix despite bailiffs visit

The Caterham team say they will race at the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend despite bailiffs visiting their base.
Team sources say the visit to their Oxfordshire site on Wednesday is not related to the F1 team.
"All operations are currently in place at Leafield and the race team is doing its preparation in Japan," read a team statement.
Caterham, who are joint last in the constructors' standings, laid off more than 40 staff in July.
The current action concerns a supplier to parent company MRT1, Caterham said in a statement, refuting "uncontrolled rumours" that the team's involvement in Formula 1 would be affected.
The team changed ownership in July when it was sold by Malaysian entrepreneur Tony Fernandes to a consortium of Swiss and Middle Eastern investors, leading to the job losses.
Chief executive officer Christijan Albers stepped down in September.
Caterham, whose current drivers are Japan's Kamui Kobayashi and Sweden's Marcus Ericsson, have not scored a point in their three seasons on the grid.
Their Leafield factory previously housed Super Aguri and Arrows, two former Formula 1 teams who were forced to quit the sport due to financial problems.

Force India driver Sergio Perez says Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix may not go ahead if Typhoon Phanfone hits Suzuka.

The typhoon has formed over the Pacific Ocean, and rain is expected for Friday practice, ahead of dry weather for qualifying on Saturday.
Mexican Perez, 24, said: "Rain will come tomorrow. The hurricane might come. If it comes, probably we won't be able to race."
Williams's Valtteri Bottas said: "There is a big chance of big rain on Sunday."
Felipe Massa, Bottas's team-mate, said: "I hope we can have the race and the weather doesn't affect us."
Forecasters say the rain band associated with the northern edge of Typhoon Phanfone will track towards Japan over the next few days and will be south of Suzuka, about 250 miles away, at the time of the race on Sunday.

Typhoon Phanfone forms
MeteoGroup forecaster Alexi Venerus said the typhoon may not hit Japan but that there was great uncertainty about its path.
"The weather itself for the actual area won't be particularly very nice but in terms of the high-strength winds, they look like they should still be well off shore or further south anyway," she said.
"The actual weather condition won't be too great for Saturday because it will be getting closer and that whole system will be moving up and that drags with it the humidity of the air and the wet air and then the clouds as well.
"The closer we get to it, the weather will start to deteriorate.
"We're looking at it turning into a super typhoon - the wind strengths get up quite significantly - so I would look at some damage being caused."
The race is part of the run-in for the world championship battle between Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
Hamilton leads by three points following his victory in Singapore two weeks ago and there are 150 points available over the remaining five races.
The battle between the two has been intense, with a number of flashpoints over the season. Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, 60 points behind Hamilton, cannot be ruled out as a contender.

Looks like Alonso is moving hoping to challenge for a world title and Vettel is moving to get away from the humiliation of being bitch slapped by Ricciardo, Can't believe he thinks Ferrari will have a car capable of challenging for the title next season.
Fernando Alonso is to leave Ferrari at the end of the season and the team will replace him with four-time champion Sebastian Vettel.

Alonso still had two more years to run on his contract but he and Ferrari have agreed to separate. He is expected to join McLaren-Honda for 2015.

Red Bull announced on Saturday Vettel had "advised them" he would leave.

Team principal Christian Horner said Ferrari had made Vettel "a very attractive offer."

Vettel will be replaced at Red Bull by Russian Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat, the team announced

All change, lazing in bed and reading via my phone that Vettel was off to Ferrari and then by the time I get up to watch the recorded Quali see that Alonso's going to Mclaren.

not surprised at the Vettel move, when Ferrari come knocking you don't say no.

Who's going to partner Alonso at McLaren? Do they keep Button, give Magnussen another chance or dump the pair of them for someone else?

I wonder how far they've gone to guarantee Alonso preferred status? They don't normally do that, of course.

Vettel and Kimi together could be interesting. It will be a good benchmark to see how good the German is, or isn't.

Can't see how Honda would have not made it clear to Dennis there has to be an A list driver in the car next season. Also knowing McLaren are the only game in town for next year Alonso would be mad to leave himself that as his only option if he had not had assurances from McLaren or Honda.
It's a match made in hell.

Dream scenario is Hamilton takes Rosberg out at the first corner and goes on to win the race and championship. Wolf goes mental after the race and announces Hamilton is gone for next season. Dennis sees the opportunity to stitch up Alonso and announces Hamilton is coming back for next year and Alonso is no longer in his plans. Honda then put the hard word on Dennis and force him to take Alonso. So we end up with

So why did Vettel jump ship?

There's no indication that the Ferrari will be any better next year than this.

Maybe he thinks that without Newey being hands on, the RB will be inferior next year.

Maybe he loves Ferrari.

Maybe he doesn't want to get shown up by Ricciardo anymore (wait for Kimi).

After being reamed by Ricciardo all season he's short of options. It doesn't matter how good or bad next year's RB is because he's not going to win the WC in it. At least at Ferrari he has a chance if they produce the best car.
