I wouldn't fancy being so close to the edge in an unsecured tent. Presumably there's no wind there.fisgard792 wrote:pulpit rock, norway, if so, once shimmied up to the edge of it on my front. scare de cat with heights me

ps What are baggies?
Re: The Entertaining Pics Thread (definitely with NSFW conte
They're small cloth bags with straws sewn into them, for sharing drugs, so-called because of their resemblance to bagpipes.Openside wrote:ps What are baggies?

Not bad... but the Kiwis will get the reference. I had a quick look around and couldn't find it, but Sir Colin Meads featured in an ad back home years ago for the aforementioned fence posts, because only a tanalised fence post could be tough enough for Pinetree.

I don't know who it is...
but my basic knowledge of ground conditions in underground mining tell me that crack running across the rock and quite deeply into it, judging by the side view, is a Very Bad Thing.

Are tanalised posts those copper green ones? I was more trying to figure out if the raptor was a wedge tail.

That's them, Kiap...
I thought it was a wedgie when I first looked at the pic. We have a pair nesting on the side of one of the open pits up here... I reckon their wingspan would be somewhere around 6-8 feet.Massive buggers, and beautiful, too.

Nice dumptruck
Aquila Audax

I've been lucky, seen a lot of them over the years. We have heaps of them out here, of course. Best experience I've had with them was near Wilpena Pound at a lookout when the three of us parked the car to stretch the legs. We were on a ridgeline that dropped away a fair bit and the thermals were ideal... a handful of Wedgies were soaring along the ridgeline and stopped to look at us. One was no more than 10 feet away, hovering, checking us out. You could hear the wind ruffling the feathers at the end of his wings. We were absolutely spellbound.. hypnotised. The eyes are the fiercest thing I've ever seen... chills just thinking about it now, 20 years later. They were more than happy to glide around us, all of them taking turns to float past and stare at us quizzically.
I've always been fascinated by raptors.. that has to be one of the highlights of my life so far.

That's very cool. Audax = bold; suitable name for them.

When I was working out in Telfer, some bloke accidentally hit one with his car while it was feeding on road kill. Its wing was broken but he managed to throw a blanket over it and take it to the police station. This was back in the early 90's so they thought long and hard about putting it out of its misery. Luckily for the bird, some wildlife officers were in the region but they couldn't make it to Telfer for 2 weeks. One of the coppers put the bird in a make-shift pen and fed it every day. After two weeks the bird had actually taken to this bloke and he was f**king hand feeding it mice and mince etc. It would hiss like a motherfucker at anyone who came near him though, apart from the cop.guy smiley wrote:Nice dumptruck![]()

The wildlife officers took it away and rehabilitated it and then let it go in the Telfer area a few months later. For about 2 years the bird would return to the cop's house and sit on his fence waiting for snacks. f**king surreal being at a BBQ when a goddamn pterodactyl turns up and stares at you.

I don't know a f**king thing about mining and that crack instantly stood out to me as a Very Bad Thing. No way would I even stand on it, let alone pitch up a tent on it.guy smiley wrote:I don't know who it is...

Some species of basidiomycetous fungi, among the brown rots, can neutralise the copper content in these type of wood preservatives, especially when they use citrate in preference to arsenate, usually for environmental reasons (arsenic is bad, donchaknow).
Now, aren't you glad I posted that? Do you want to know how?
