There's been similar debates in Auckland, I recall.

Golf courses use a lot more space than parks and are used by a lot less people would be the argument they'd make, I guess.

As was pointed out to me on here, golf courses are running on having to put their prices up to attract wealthy tourists (yanks) who don't think a cheap course can be any good. Which is rubbish. I have no issues with public courses, that provide walking (dog walking, jogging, etc.) routes around them, and charge low enough that anyone can play, especially teens (on the course I was at the teens were the best players, and the nicest people,) but a lot of the time places are full of Lord Haw Haw, except they don't have the grace of a Lord because they're nouveau riche bastards who just want to be seen. Big load of plum. Either make golf accessible to the people or bollocks off with your only providing to arseholes.

Imagine any other sport making it artificially expensive to get involved. Which is exactly what golf courses do. Every other sport, even the ones that cost a bomb in equipment, etc. are all trying to attract as many people as they can.

I won't even get into lush green courses in desserts when it's been shown decent courses can be made in far more sustainable ways.

Sports grounds don't have large amounts of unused ground.

And I'm guessing that was one of the soft drinks you pay a few bucks for. The complimentary drinks I've had the last few flights I've been on are about half the size of that!

The 8oz/240ml soft drink can has been standard on flights for years.

And tbf, the couple on your post would probably be flying 1st/business/premium class if they were flying today.

The real bollocks is the baggage charges now; charging for a standard size checked bag on long-haul/international flights (when, almost by definition, most travellers are going to need more than a carry-on worth of clothes when they get where they're going) is taking the piss.

Malcolm Gladwell did a good story on this in his Revisionist History podcast (highly recommended for those into podcasts and not already on to it):

You get to be smug when you are undefeated. I also did not agree with much of his Covid plan but at least he can't be accused of importing Covid into the country, yet.

Oh and getting back on track, politics in a pics thread.
