You and about 300,000 other Scottish folk! It's going to be part of the citizenship test soon - "Have you seen Kevin Bridges live?" "Yes" "Alright son, you can stay"

Just saw The Widlhearts a couple of nights ago. Got tickets booked for:

Muse
Muse did a surprise gig down in the Electric Ballroom, Camden last Friday week.

I do not tend to buy tickets anymore, but still go to a lot of Irish sessions.
This week I will go out tonight, Friday night, and Sunday.

I saw an excellent emerging Australian band on the weekend with the missus called Holy Holy.

Doubt they will ever be a mainstream band but one of the best live acts I have seen in some time. Tight band. Great vocalist. Great songs. Their songs also sound better live - bit more of a gritty edge to it and the lead guitarist is amazing.

They even did a cover of a Neil Young song - Southern Man. Now I really don't rate Young that much - but they absolutely nailed that song to the point I thoroughly enjoyed it and will listen to some more of his other stuff.

Cracking gig

I don't go to many gigs, but made a point of going to Liam Finn (yes, son of Neil) when he was down here in March. Played out at Chicks Hotel which probably holds 100. Fuck me, what a show. Took a few people who didn't know many of his songs and they left as huge fans of his live act. Just throws everything into it. He's a bit odd but in a endearing way.

The beard is strong. I was blown away by their performance to be honest.

I also loved how much they seemed to be enjoying themselves. The drummer in particular was loving it!

Unknown Mortal Orchestra last night. Utterly f**ked everything that was good about themselves up by introducing a keyboard player, who proceded to go full Wakeman. Very bad vibes.

Ride next month in Bristol. Really looking forward to it, and introspectively inspecting my shoes. May not be able to stay over as it's the same night as QF2 at the MS and Holiday Inn in Bristol, usually £77 now want £900 for the night.

Had a family trip to see Paulo Nutini at Bellahouston Park recently. He was very good. In support Grace Jones did a set topless with body paint, which is interesting for 67 year year old. Her hula hooping was excellent.

The Mrs and I went to see the Mavericks a few months back. I was expecting a evening of big band, cheesy good time latin / rockabilly fusion, but they were quite disappointing. Except when Raul Palo sang solo with just a guitar. That man has an astonishing voice.

Paolo's family comes from the same town in Italy as my Mother (Barga) which has also given us Nicola Benedetti and Daniela Nardini.

Yep, shots absolutely needed. Wild hipsters roaming the streets all sorts of weird food.

TBF its a reasonable spot, plenty of beverage outlets. Ok coffee and easy access to the city

Megadeth Rocks!

What a cool concert, played mostly older stuff and the new single.

Mustaines voice is struggling with some of the songs though.

They're great. I saw them a few years back at Chicks Hotel in Port Chalmers. Only issue was dickheads talking constantly through their set.

Nice people to talk to as well.

Chicks is a great venue. Fantastic to see it rejuvenated and being used again. Attracting great bands too, Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr, Shellac, Steve Malkmus, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Liam Finn...

Neil Young? Music to slash your wrists to. You probably already now but that is the song that inspired part of Sweet Home Alabama. That and Alabama.

Off to see Fleetwood Mac in a few weeks in Auckland. Wasn't my idea and although I like their music, I have fears about what they will produce live without the studio tweaking their aged voices...

True and the Skynyrd and Young were good friends.

Hand in that black Les Paul copy too while you're at it. Young is one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Lindsey Buckingham's guitar playing will be worth the price of admission alone. He's one of the greats.

I am going to try to get Jackson Browne tickets for next April - but wonder much the same thing.

I wonder if he's Running on Empty?

Yes they are very nice guys. I even had a selfie with Rennie Sparks. She is actually a lot sexier then she looks.
