I'm from Argentina and as logical i have search for an exclusive thread concerning "Los Pumas" with no positive result!!

How's this possible?

I would like to read your oppinion's about our team gameplay, etc!

My advice would be that for the duration of the RWC, generalist threads such as the one you propose won't have much chance of gaining traction. Especially when they're started by a nothing-poster such as yourself. Stick to the Pumas match threads until the end of the RWC, there is no reason why they can't flow into each other with no lapses in discussion. After that, by all means start a general Pumas/Argentina thread. I look forward to discussing Argentina's pathetic 2-21 Rugby Championship win/loss record with you once the RWC is completed.

I find Los Pumas quite odd. I'm English so I'm inclined to dislike any Argentinian team. However, for some reason I quite like the Pumas and support them in all their games (apart from against England and NZ). They have a great style of play and a good quality team. I think they'll give Ireland a shock in the quarters.

I think there is a general dislike for Argentinian sports teams over here (I was supporting Germany in the WC final). This is much like a Rugby Championship being played in European lands.
Discard England for just one game (still host the tournament) it seems very rushed.
Australians should not be very happy with the outcome of the match England - Wales.

I'm English Luciano and I follow Argentina's teams be it in football or rugby or indeed basketball and field hockey with interest and often my wholehearted support.

They have done a great job in setting the marker for the so called smaller sides in world rugby and they themselves can only get stronger and stronger. It's a long way from time Messr's Hogg and Tench started their match in Buenos Aires.

laakademia you live near the San Isidro district. Are you CASI or SIC ?

It really wasn't much of a handball. And as for diving one need look no further than Sir Steven Gerrard of Liverpool. I dislike our football team greatly. A bunch of barely literate chavs.

Aboit 1966 the referee in that game was German and in the West Germany quarterfinal was English. Tim Vickery has mentioned that something underhand went on at the time....Brazil were certainly kicked out of the tournament and Uruguay also had some rough refereeing decisions.

Speak for yourself. Have enjoyed the Pumas improvement in the rugby championship. Good to see another team at the top table.

Good thread this. How do our posters on the ground in Argentina feel rugby is going generally? Is there much interest in the RWC around the place? Player numbers going up or down? Is there much/any growth in traditionally weaker areas? I've always enjoyed watching Los Pumas and it's great to see the improvement you're making thanks to increased competition.

What bothers me the famous "Hand of God" is the boast of Maradona later. Brazil defeats us in the final of Copa America with a goal also made by hand and I was not as pathetic as that of Maradona.
Another thing that bothered me is to realize that the same person was able to make a treacherous hand goal and minutes later be able to make the best goal in World Cup history.

Sustained growth since 1999, and even more so in the aftermath of the RWC 2007.

Players' numbers are going up around 10% a year since then. The one thing reducing the influence of good Pumas performances in the RWCs is the fact that it happens at the end of our season, so some of the kids who approach the clubs then don't come back at the end of the summer...

Provicial competitions are gaining in visibility, and not only in upper class areas, and the year starts with a national club Championship that is quite widely advertised and followed.

The Pumas' games in this RWC are being broadcasted in free-to-air TV, apparently with decent viewing numbers. But most of the Pool games have been shown on digital channels by the local broadcaster (ESPN), with only a couple of matches on basic cable, and late replays of the other games... that tends to annoy many.

All the elimination games will be on basic cable, though...

Have you read the rest of my posts? I said I like watching the Pumas and support them in most games (apart from vs NZ and England). I can't support their football team though (due to incidents above). I know there will be exceptions, but the general British public opinion of Argentinian sports teams is probably negative. Sorry to have annoyed you.

Hah, as an Everton fan I detest Stevie G too. Good riddance. England football team don't do themselves a lot of favours either. Most players are immensely dislikable. However, you have to support them because they represent our country.

Mainly because you seem to always beat us and you do like to wind us up a fair bit. Pretty ungrateful given we've hosted most of your players in the Top14 for years

I really like the way you are playing at the moment. I can't see us beating you but we won't meet any way as we'll lose to Ireland. I will back you to beat Ireland and come close in the Semi.

It's clear that playing in the RC has madevs huge difference. With your Super rugby team things can only improve. I think a Kiwi coach may well be worth looking at at some point.

Mark my words. Argentina will be a major force in Rugby very soon.

Although not sure there is a general dislike of Argentinian sports teams. It's more a football centric thing imo.

I bet that "Las Leonas" (Argentine girls playing field hockey) will not be so unpleasant.

In fact, all women's hockey teams that I have witnessed (even the Dutch, who developed the bad habit to beat us often) I have found quite pleasant.
