Stupid question, is it free when you visit home if you’re still with your Irish GP?

Get thy some patches.
I can easy get jabs or androgel stuff on the black market, there’s basically people running chemists in council flats these days it’s madness... need to get checked out first I guess. Could be meds or something doing it.

Private GP in Chelmsford is worth a chat with. Might be serotonin related as well.

Yeah crossed my mind the Zoloft is dragging it down even at a low dose.

Or that you’re short test and that’s causing the other issue. I suspect it’s an issue with me but while I’m a bit heavy and BP is not “perfect”

Well...I don’t expect much from the GP so it’ll probably cost me some dollar private :|

It costs >€50 just for them to talk to you!

I think I'm registered in 5 different practices from living in different places around Dublin.

I’ve been meaning to get some tests done. I’m always tired and my gym progress is quite slow. I have a bizarrely low resting heart rate too, so wondering if it might be thyroid related. US healthcare is great if your insurance will cover what you need

Had fun squatting this morning.
Backed off my top sets a shade, I think I'm inclined to overdo the intensity a bit and not leave much room for progression. Didn't go full-on for the assistance squats either, more focus on quality of reps.
Felt better, TBH.

Squat: 120x5, 130x3,3,3
A2G paused squat: 100 x4,4,4
Low bar squat: 90 x6,6,6
Narrow stance front squat: 60 x8,8,8
Walking lunges: 20 x40 metres, 2 sets

Glutes were fried from the lunges. The deep paused squats felt good, especially after heavier sets. Slow and controlled movements. Felt like a good way to train good motor patterns. Really focusing on keeping my left hip working and not letting my pelvis kick out to the right.

BP test can be self-administered, indeed I'd have thought it a cheap resource by comparison with, say gym membership

I'm no Dr, but if you have observed a drop in performance and are experiencing tiredness then it sounds as if a quick blood screening would be appropriate - red cell count and blood sugars would be pretty standard and ought not cost too much.

You might also consider tests for the nasties that men are prone to.....

A couple of years ago the missus was getting her pill prescription renewed and had to get BP/HR checked as standard procedure. BP came back quite high, so she was advised to get a kit and check at home a few times. Sure enough, it was fine. She's prone to white coat hypertension.

I still use the monitor a bit when I think of it. A couple of years ago my systolic pressure was a bit high, consistently 135 or more, but the diastolic was fine.
Since increasing my cardio output (Parkrun each week) the systolic has dropped to healthier levels. Don't think I've appreciably changed my diet in that time, or changed my lifting training.

Must be the scientist in me, but I love seeing how a metric changes with changed behaviour etc.

Now you're giving me ideas!

I'd love if there was a way to measure BP instantanteously, rather than over the 30 or so seconds it takes with the pressurised armband. I really want to know what my HR and BP spike to during max effort lifting. It'd probably be anough to make me reconsider my lifestyle.

I threw this pic up before, but just imagine what my heart is dealing with for these few seconds. :uhoh:

In order to make sense of the data you'd need to compare it to other athletes no?

Oh absolutely. Data in isolation doesn't mean much. Just curious. I love quantitative metrics for stuff.

Have you ever had burst blood vessels from a max lift?

The first time it happened to me scared the crap out of me. Lots of little dots around my eyes and neck.

I've never burst blled vessels from a max lift, I'm not strogn enough yet. Mind you, I can feel the pressure behind my eyes when I really go for it, so I'd imagine that they'll be the first places it'll happen.

Saw a pic on instagram the other day of a guy in the middle of a DL with the full tomato head, but the whites of his eyes were completely red too. It's fucking disgusting.

Travelling, dinner and a few points last night, overnight in a hotel, meeting all day with sandwiches for lunch, and then traveling again meant a late bench session this evening. Felt food. Think sometimes the relief of getting a sweat on after being stuck in chairs ask day can be the best motivation.

Finished yesterday's squats with walking lunges, glutes feeling it today.

I've used one before. It was fine. Depends which one you use as to how good it is for you. I'd have preferred more racks and platforms, but they had a reasonable amount of free weights.
Not the most expensive monthly sub and you can go any time.
I think it gets absolutely packed in the evenings, but I was using it very early in the morning so never had an issue.

A bit of a lottery as to what you get. My old gym got bought out and converted to Pure Gym and while the £15 a month or so was welcome the influx of pikeys and Love Island wannabe contestants was not. All the equipment was brand new but there was little chance of you actually getting to complete whatever circuit you had planned to do due to oversubscription. If you can use them outside of busy times I am sure they are fine.

Yeah, zero chance of any kind of circuit where you need multiple pieces of equipment.

Eddie Hall leg day.

Squats 260 and then does 1000 on the leg press. Shits himself and passes out on the leg press as well, before finishing the session. While telling the viewers to know when you've done enough exercise for one session.

Up early to watch Fiji-Aus, had brekkie good and early, then Parkrun.
Was gassed after a couple of km. Set off a shade fast, but I was wrecked before the hill which is 3km in. Need to work on the lungs more.

Pure gym is brilliant value but you have to go 6am before the roiders and roadmen are up, our Local one is like the Mos Eisley cantina. I’d always pay extra for somewhere else.

Anyway you can switch off now- got my bloods back, everything spot on and Tes level at 9.4 which the doc said is fine. I disagree and will either go to a private gp or online for some androgel or similar to boost it up a bit. It could be 30 something and still normal!

That's committment!

Good sessions the last two days. Managed to work off the accumulated energy and stress of watching 7 rugby games in two and a bit days with a really good shoulder session yesterday afternoon.
OHP: 65x3, 67.5x2, 70x1, 70x2, 50 x8,8,8
Shrugs / lat raises
Incline bench
Curls / skull crushers
Face pulls

Was going to do assault bike sprints, but it had been moved and I wasn't that motivated to do something else. Hit a rep PR with the double at 70. I've done 72.5 for a single on numerous occasions over the last couple of years, so that puts my projected PR about the same, but it was nice get two nice reps. Usually my form completely goes to shit after one rep that close to max so I can't reset for another properly.
RPE was about 11, TBF. Proper tunnel vision and partial headrush in the middle of the rep. Not going to try that weight again for a few weeks.

Squats this morning.

Squats: 120x5, 130x3, 135x3, 140x3,3
A2G pause squats: 100 x4,4,4
Squat: 87 x20 - 59 seconds*
Front squats: 60 x10,10,10
Walking KB lunges

*Was chatting to a buddy in the next rack about silly high rep squat stuff and he mentioned doing BW x20 so I decided to give it a go as a volume set after my main working sets.
Did it as 5 mini sets of 4 with a quick breather between. Done in 59 seconds. Wasn't the worst. Was breathing hard and heart going bananas at the end, but legs still had plenty in them.
Traps a wrecked now from shrugs yesterday and the walking lunges today.

OHP seems to be the worst lift for me for feeling like death when doing heavy weight.

I’ll see stars and stuff while squatting or deadlifting heavy but feel like I’m gonna pass out doing OHP.

Last week I developed a sty on my eye lid basically a clogged gland on the edge of my eye lid. Coming up from the bottom of my sixth rep off 425 on my low bar squat I felt a pop in my eye lid and my upper cheek felt weird. The gland had popped internally under the pressure 😮 woke up the next morning with a black eye.😂

Last nights training

Bench
5x10 90

Deadlift
5x6 175

Incline DB press
4x10 30

Single arm press
4x10 20

Curls

Moved up about 10kg on bench from last session. That combined with the DB and other pressing gave me a massive pump.

Working on not doing touch and go deadlifts. Not a full reset but making sure the bar stops moving after each rep. Killed my forearms.
