Irishers-The Official Irish politics thread

Post by HighKingLeinster »

So the election of the 32nd Dail is imminent and must happen before April. It will be an interesting one-can FG hold on against the barbarian looney left? Will FF recover after destroying the country? Will the shinners increase their seats?

What is your preferred result?

I know we would both have options in that newer parties might fit our respective viewpoints more accurately but I don't see either making a breakthrough.

Yeah I have been thinking that alright.

But then I'm struggling, is it just fear of failure with a new party holding me back or some of the old twangs of loyalty.

They have made a balls of it re their launch and I had a bizarre experience when I put out feelers.

I think its a combination of those factors for me also, as well as that I have encountered a few opportunists that were Labour last time out, green before that etc in the ranks of the social dems.

You tend to get a bit of that and it is very off putting.

Not that FF isn't full of lads who would run for the Satanists if they could get to the Dail. I mean why do we have so many people who believe in nothing but yet want to be politicians all their lives.

FG solo or supported by enough centre-right Indos/Renua to ensure stable government.

If not that FG/Lab.

This.

I for one just hope (although it's a fools hope as the people of Wexford are as dense as a black hole) that Mick - fucking - Wallace gets his marching orders.

I know he'll get in no problem and it sickens me

As for me, my own constituency will be interesting.
4 government TDs - 2 Labour, 2 FG but one of the FG TDs is Derek Keating who must be one of the biggest gobsh1tes in the current Dáil so I can see him being ditched for the likes of William Lavelle who has been a councillor for ages now and might be looking to make the step up.
I can see Eoin O'Broin from SF battling Labour for one of their seats

Ill vote first pref renua in the hope that whoever gets in to power is pulled to the right.

After that FG/FF is not much of a muchness. Ill let it depend on which local candidate is most impressive / and who cuts pub expenditure most or increases it least. Also which party promises the most re cap ex

How about each do an analysis of their own constituency ?

Mine Dublin Bay South (was Dublin SE) 4 Seater. Constituency enlarged through transfer of largely middle class Terenure areas from Dublin Sth Central.

Current TDs : Lucinda Creighton (Renua), Eoghan Murphy (FG), Ruairí Quinn (Lab), Kevin Humphries (Labour).

Of these Quinn is retiring, and Labour are only running Humphries. FG are running Kate O'Connell in addition to Murphy, FF long time candidate Jim O'Callaghan, SF former FF man Chris Andrews, and former TD Eamonn Ryan is standing for the Greens. The various other rag tags won't go beyond the first or second counts.

Of interest will be how much of Creightons vote is personal rather than FG, similarly how much of Quinns personal vote will Labour retain, and where will the rest go, especially given that Humphries hasn't been prominent in the constituency. Will Andrews eat into the FF vote, or, more likely in my view, will the opportunistic ship jumping by him cost him in the end.

My prediction :

Murphy to head the poll, Lucinda to get enough first preferences to scrape in, O'Connell to get in on Murphys surplus/Ryans elimination and a dog fight between FF and Labour for the last seat, which O'Callaghan might win.

I am in the new Dublin Rathdown constituency can its going to be a blood bath with only 3 TDs being returned.

Shane "I like wearing wife beaters" Ross will likely romp home and then its one of Josepha Madigan, Alan Shatter (both FG), Peter Matthews (Ind, formerly FG), Alex White (Lab) and Mary White (FF) plus shinners/AAA gobshites.

My prediction is Ross, Madigan and prob Shatter

I have been with the last redraw of the boundries been transferred to Dublin South–West.
Im going to commit ritual suicide. The current lot in power are:

Seán Crowe (SF)
Eamonn Maloney (Ind)
Pat Rabbitte (Lab)
Paul Murphy (AAA–PBP)

Having said that - the constituency is now totally different no way all the above will get in with 18k of elderly wealthy voters from Rathfarnham now pushed in and parts of west dublin pushed pushed out.

For 2016 the list is as follows - any random 4 from below

Fine Gael Colm Brophy
Sinn Féin Seán Crowe
Fine Gael Anne-Marie Dermody
Labour Party Mick Duff
Green Party Francis Duffy
Sinn Féin Sarah Holland
Labour Party Pamela Kearns
Fianna Fáil John Lahart
Renua Ireland Ronan McMahon
AAA–PBP Paul Murphy
Fine Gael Karen Warren

Dublin Fingal (formerly Dublin North)

Changes from a 4 seater to 5 seater with the return of middle class Portmarnock and parts of west Swords.

Sitting
Alan Farrell FG
James Reilly FG
Clare Daly Ind
Brendan Ryan Lab

Prediction
Daly, O'Brien FF and Reilly to be returned any two of Farrell, Ryan and the SF cúnt for the remaining.
