The Management's ring is three diamonds.

I had it made by Cellini in Rose Crescent Cambridge. The middle one was bought for her by her former husband who brought it back in a mounted ring from Johannesberg.

Stuck out like a sore thumb. Awful.

I added a couple either side and it nestles nicely in now.

Got the odd aghast look from some who thought it wrong to have another man's diamond on her finger, but it's part of her history.

I'm not bothered at all. I'll pop a piccy up when she's about.

You want to see grandma's five stoner. It's a bit dated style wise. I'm probably having it reset.

Better, but frankly a bit disappointing. Three "adequate" diamonds, one of which you didn't even buy. I never really had you down as a cheapskate.

Still I'm sure she loves it for the emotional value in any case.

My friend has just finished the guest list conversation.

It did not go well.

My friend is starting to rue this silly societal tradition.

Your friend should wait until parents get involved in the guest list conversation. That's the interesting part.

That's the point.

This is not about money.

I'll not bother posting her eternity ring details, nor the watch she's got.

Now cleverclogs, try and work out the necklace.

Do remember, I used to be a poor student. As Liberace once famously said about the twinkling diamonds on his fingers "That's what you get when you practice".

I practised a lot. I'm not a cheapskate.

I've removed the insurance value from the statement.

You could possibly buy a house with it.

So is currently involved in both negotiating a budget (which is awkward) and feigning interest in all things ring-related.
There have been stories told to my friend by his partner along the lines of "my friend's partner just proposed with a plastic ring which a gas altogether, what a card hahaha, but then they had great fun shopping together for ages and ages and ages".

So yeah, I think I'm just gonna buy it myself. If she hates it she can bring it back.
There was no fcuking way I was going to go out and spend a large wedge of cash on my missus for something when I knew she'd hate whatever I picked out. So I went the cheapo Amazon route, and was proven right when she didn't like the one I picked out (I also totally screwed up the size).

Fortunately, I was working long hours way out in the middle of nowhere at the time, so didn't get roped into too much ring shopping. We also decided to spend more on things like the food etc at the wedding than on the rings, which ended up being a very good choice.

You are sooooo defensive.

By the way, you ain't buying a house with 1/3rd of a gram of flawed, slightly yellow diamond off cuts.

You contemptible piece of faeces. You, your 'friend' and his airhead moll GF would do their best work as fertiliser for the rice paddies.

Regarding your 'friend's' first world problem, I make no apologies for being more concerned about the several food crises that have been triggered in 2015/2016 by extreme weather events due to the climate fueled El Nino. You probably heard about the severe droughts affecting several countries in the Horn of Africa, southern Africa, eastern and southern Asia, Central America and the Caribbean? Probably made big news in Canada due the huge contribution from your filthy tar sands to climate change and the morally repugnant regime in place until recently under the Harper administration.

This is just a tiny little taste and foreshadowing of things to come so get used to it.

And meanwhile: you, your friend and his GF can die in a fire.

Of course. Not. Depends where the house is.

It might be a surprise to you that my wife and I are not particularly ostentatious! She has got another rock that's sizeable but maybe the big prize is her necklace.

My friend decided against the advice of the plums on here and allowed his significant other to select a ring of her choosing. Not for her the safety and sanity of Hatton Garden. Oh no. On the plus side, having spent all his money on some rocks (one of which you can't even see) and some metal, he has absolutely no money for the wedding. So that's postponed indefinitely.

I won't bore you with the details but needless to say your plight does not surprise my friend who has now become a reluctant expert in the provenance, selection, cutting, polishing and fixing of diamonds. The poor bankrupt bastard.

He's an odd human being. My ex tighthead prop, behaves like a complete neanderthal, also a qualified scaffolder. On the side he makes truly exquisite rings for not a huge amount. I know at least 6 people including one of my sisters who's rings he's made! *insert your own euphemism here*

That's very kind but as I said, not for my friend is the way of purchasing diamond and ring separately. Oh no. My friend purchased completed ring, complete with hidden pink diamond, from a 'boutique' off Idiot Avenue, right next to Mugs' Place, in that part of town you should absolutely never purchase anything of value unless you're an Arab, a hip hop star or a fecking footballer.
