I am not leaving unless I so decide.

Unless some sniveling mod nukes me.

If I do decide to leave, I will announce it.

Brennan is probably referring to the influential supporters, rather than every voter.

Even the Nuremburg trials had a fairly limited scope - they didn't put EVERYONE on trial.

Don't worry - you are an absolute nobody. You're safe. You're just one of the little people who sat on the sidelines making excuses for scum like Trump.

We all have different points of views.
Let's respectfully disagree and move on and find a common enemy to channel our ire towards.

Any suggestions?

ISIS or the Westbro Baptists or perhaps Hermes?

It's Hermes for me

I do not know his political affiliations, but I am sure he is no Republican. I am also very glad that all the Nazis he was with spared his life, and even avoided saying anything nasty to him, or any of the other black people in his video.

Just listening to the Audible version of Dark Towers, about Duetsche Bank and its dealings with Trump.

Jaysis I never realised how much of a kunt the man was before becoming POTUS  . It is actually impressive how such a big steaming turd of a human being can end up the US president in the first place, irrespective of how much of a prick he actually was when in office.

The US is f**ked for the next decade as it’ll take a succession of super-woke politicians as president to gain any sort international credibility again, by which time the snowflake generation will have turned the country into a bunch of moody, angry and lazy bastards.

China must be laughing their arses off.

The problem is not inequality in wealth but inequality in representation in govt which means inequality in govt policies.

They soent $600bn in 2008 bailing out banks who were the cause of their own failures but refuse $1.2 tn for people who were affected by govt imposed lockdowns.

Without a doubt.

The "fact" that her Social media history suggests she was a fanatical Trumpster only goes to prove how deep the conspiracy runs.

I'm guessing Brennan was talking about people like this:

Image
(Newly elected Republican congresswoman) Mary Miller spoke at a Save the Republic Rally hosted by conservative group Mums for America.

While discussing the need for her party to appeal to young people, she said: "Hitler was right on one thing. He said, 'Whoever has the youth has the future.'"

The rally took place a day before supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol.

Where’s your money on for the first Biden war?
not sure. the don's done a pretty good job of calming the middle east generally.

maybe a proxy war with muh, russia. probably return to ukraine or syria.
Do you sincerely think the Don has calmed the Middle East? His handling of Iran, his allowing the Turks to get involved deeper?

That place is more f**ked than ever I think and NATO is about to implode.
they're always having a go at each other round there, but israel's peace agreements are a cause for hope in the region.

as far as we're concerned, those never ending wars we were dragged into have all calmed down.

and besides, the don will need the military's attention stateside when he signs the insurrection act (if he hasn't already.. :) ).

4071 wrote: Sun Jan 10, 2021 7:02 pm On a subject unrelated to Bimbo being wrong about inequality, I have noted a couple of stories popping up and I don't know how much traction they are going to get. Right now it's fringe websites and social media, but it might be good to get out ahead of this.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2021/1 ... surrection

https://news.yahoo.com/clarence-thomas- ... 03492.html

The question is being raised about the consequences for Clarence Thomas of his wife being a supporter of the protests, a devoted Trump fan and a spreader of conspiracy theories. The idea of impeachment has been raised.

Clearly the response should be NO!

This is obviously an attempt to try and force a rebalancing of SCOTUS after Trump managed to turn it red. It is unprincipled and nakedly political. It's fair to dislike Thomas as a judge, but no one should be facing consequences for the actions of their spouse.

I don't know if this will take off: It is just Twitter chat and partisan opinion pieces so far. However, in a polarised political world craziness from the fringes has a way of making its way to the mainstream. But this should absolutely be resisted.

That's the fear with this whole riot - that it will be used for political gain; used as a pretext for actions that are not actually warranted. This should not be allowed to happen.
You know, we might not always see eye to eye, but I do have to say you do call it as you see it 4071

The main issue for me during those summer protests was the number of times that it was the police instigating conflict.

Defending themselves and property when under attack is different. People who were attacking the police and getting hurt during the summer pretty much deserved what they got.

The difference here was stark - the police (mostly) defended their lines - in one case fatally - but they did not attack the crowd. They did not proactively disperse peaceful (if rowdy) protestors with tear gas and baton charges. They did not shoot at people who were just standing around posing no threat (even if it was with 'non lethal' rounds). They didn't actively assault journalists who were covering it. They didn't mete out physical violence on people purely out of revenge/spite rather than necessity. All of that happened in the summer. And that was the objectionable bit.
My very first post comparing the two was trying to get at the very same sort of zealots you're referring to in the above post re: Thomas. There is nothing guiding these people's opinions other than what benefits their team, calling to mind actual Nazi Carl Schmidt's observation that the chief political distinction that motivates action is that between friend and enemy. Not a healthy ethos to have underpinning your democracy/discourse (can those be separated?) to say the least.

Two random thoughts:
- probably safe to say the Secret Service and Capitol Hill cops have higher admissions standards, training, and professionalism than your average metro PD, which is more likely to explain the disparity in response than anything IMO
- we surely won't agree on this, and it likely will come off sounding bad, but I don't mind in many cases proactively dispersing otherwise peaceful protestors in times of crisis. This is not something 1st world folks understand so well, but a lot of violent riots begin as peaceful protests. That's the ugly truth. But no question the other things you mention, especially raw violence in "revenge", is totally inappropriate behavior from law enforcement.
