I saw this comment on twitter the other day that really resonated with me. Reminded me of Trump, and also a few of his passionate supporters on this thread.

As a recent graduate (like many others) of the Google University of Virolo-epidemi-medicine-ology, I can confirm that rushing a vaccine out that then either doesn’t work, or makes things worse - is considered poor form.

Not that Trumpers would care, of course, because it’s all for lulz.

Trump accuses 'deep state' of delaying coronavirus vaccine until after US election
August 23, 2020 — 2.49am

Washington: US President Donald Trump on Saturday accused members of the "deep state" at the Food and Drug Administration, without providing evidence, of working to slow testing of COVID-19 vaccines until after the November presidential election.

In a Twitter post, Trump said the deep state "or whoever" at the FDA was making it very difficult for drug companies to enroll people in clinical trials to test vaccines and therapies for the novel coronavirus.

US President Donald Trump has described the Democratic convention as ‘gloomy’, suggesting Joe Biden sees American ‘darkness’.

The comment came after Reuters exclusively reported on Thursday that a top FDA official said he would resign if the Trump administration approved a vaccine before it was shown to be safe and effective.

"Obviously, they are hoping to delay the answer until after November 3rd. Must focus on speed, and saving lives!" Trump wrote, tagging FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn in the tweet.

Trump often uses Twitter to criticise federal agencies, sometimes accusing them of being controlled by the "deep state" in an apparent reference to long-serving staff who, in Trump's eyes, are determined to undermine his agenda.

His tweet increases the pressure on the FDA after Peter Marks, director of its Centre for Biologics Evaluation and Research, last week said on a conference call with government officials, pharmaceutical executives and academics that he would resign if the agency rubber-stamped an unproven vaccine.

Scientists, public health officials and lawmakers are worried that the Trump administration will push the FDA to approve a vaccine in advance of the vote, even if data from clinical trials do not support its widespread use.

Marks, whose division regulates cutting-edge biotech treatments, vaccines and gene therapies, told Reuters he has not faced any political pressure and that the FDA would be guided by science alone. Should that change, he said on Thursday, "I would feel obligated (to resign) because in doing so, I would indicate to the American public that there's something wrong."

Reuters
They are in a hard space. They will get pounced on if they wave through vaccines without the requisite controls and checks. As someone who works in this field, I can tell you they are letting nothing loosen up, except possibly in the area of Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) for say frontline workers and the seriously at risk in the near future.

The political pressure is real to get out good news before the Election, but they also know their career reputations are on the line if they choose wrong.
Nice to know. Not my first choice as an overriding consideration, but then I'm just a consumer.

Snap. If people put their reputations ahead of advancing treatments that could save thousands of lives, then they're sociopaths.

Isn't Russia the only country that has so far approved a vaccine. Maybe someone should ask Donald if he believes their is a global conspiracy to see him lose the election. I would love his answer.

His sister saying nasty things about him is actually little more than the media being nasty about him, and the media being nasty can be filed in the fake news media aren't fair to the stable genius file.

This is going to be a bit difficult for Donald. Apart from the exam claim she is only saying stuff that is obvious to everyone who isn't a deluded Trump supporter. She has however never said any of it publicly. It would be surprising if she doesn't know about a lot of other things Donald wouldn't want the public to know about. So i doubt we are going to see him attacking her. His niece on the other hand is likely to get it in the neck.

Hopefully The Post have a few more gems up their sleeves that they intend to drip feed us over the coming months.

That would be a useful update about Pelosi and Biden were it true, what Pelosi actually said was she doesn't think there should be a debate because why legitimise something like Trump, but she knows Biden and his staff think differently about the situation to her.

The projection is blatant to the point of comical suggesting Biden be drug tested before the debates.
Coming so soon after Don Jr's. display on Monday is a little obvious, even for Trump.

"Look, I don't know if Don Jr was up to his eyeballs during the convention. Maybe he was maybe he wasn't. I just hear a lot of people saying, you know many many people are talking about it"

Anyway Joe can be tested as soon as Trump shows us his S.A.T test.....College transcripts...Vietnam Medical....tax returns.

If full disclosure is suddenly his thing.

Would be funny if Joe said, "ok" in an anytime, anywhere buddy kind of way. Oh, and real time fact checkers and a microphone cut off switch when the other candidate is speaking in the debate as well please.

The Trump administration continuing to blur the lines between the Government and electioneering.

First we had Pompeo giving his speech with the backdrop of Jerusalem, now we have Trump using the White House as a backdrop to the finale of the Republican convention. Trump just took a dump on the lawn of the People's House.

Oh, they're not blurring the lines. They're trampling over them. It's been established that they have broken the law. But the Federal Elections commission doesn't currently have enough commissioners for a quorum, and the person responsible for enforcing election law right now is the President, so y'know. Fcukit.
