Donald Trump boasted he made things up in a conversation with Canada's prime minister, insisting the US ran a trade deficit with its neighbour despite having "no idea" if the claim were true, the Washington Post reported.

The US President recalled the exchange with Justin Trudeau in a fundraising speech in Missouri, of which the paper said it had obtained an audio recording.

"Trudeau came to see me. He's a good guy, Justin. He said, 'No, no, we have no trade deficit with you, we have none. Donald, please,'" Mr Trump said, imitating Mr Trudeau, the paper reported.

"Nice guy, good-looking guy, comes in - 'Donald, we have no trade deficit.' He's very proud because everybody else, you know, we're getting killed.

"So, he's proud. I said, 'Wrong, Justin, you do.' I didn't even know. ... I had no idea. I just said, 'You're wrong.'"

Mr Trump added: "You know why? Because we're so stupid. ... And I thought they were smart. I said, 'You're wrong, Justin.'

"He said, 'Nope, we have no trade deficit.' I said, 'Well, in that case, I feel differently,' I said, 'but I don't believe it.'

"I sent one of our guys out, his guy, my guy, they went out, I said, 'Check, because I can't believe it.'"

According to the US Trade Representative, the United States runs a trade surplus with Canada.

That makes him sound like a ridiculous bluffer who speaks with no regard for facts or truth and has neither the intellectual curiosity nor the inclination to understand what he is talking about and prepare himself properly.

I wonder how those talks with North Korea will go?

Ah, they will get by. Probably start talking baseball or some such ice breaking thing. Baye and baye get to the business end and start trading.
I cannot imagine that Rocket man is too sharp on diplomatic procedure either ....

Sanction on Russia finally going to go ahead, for their interference in the 2016 election, but they've also referenced the use of Novichok in the UK as another example of why Russia needs a slap on the wrists.

We do have a Trade Deficit with Canada, as we do with almost all countries (some of them massive). P.M. Justin Trudeau of Canada, a very good guy, doesn’t like saying that Canada has a Surplus vs. the U.S.(negotiating), but they do...they almost all do...and that’s how I know!

That's how he knows... it's the vibe yer 'onour.

It's no different to how he calculates his net worth - what he feels like he's worth has far more to do with it than the actual cash in his bank account

The problem isn't so much whether the US has a trade deficit with a given nation, it's that Trump seems to think trade is a zero sum game

Sometimes both.

The exit door at the WH keeps on spinning with McMarster rumored to be the next to be spat out.

If there is a salient lesson in this for any staffers remaining it is don't go against the boss. Trump's ego just can't handle it.

She may have been a bit peturbed about having a possible pornstar Mother in Law. A Mililf?

Or maybe Jr is just following in his Daddies footsteps and is considering upgrading to a later mail order - sorry, foreign - model.

And amazingly, Stormy Daniels might not be the only one paid off by a good-hearted lawyer who mortgaged his own home out of the goodness of his own heart to buy their silence about having an affair with Trump.
Her lawyer has had 6 women (and counting) come forward with similar stories.

Stop thinking about what I am thinking or should be thinking and think about what an arse you look bitching about women. Unsavoury and unaskd for - they are not politicians, did not ask to be there.

You make it sound as if these women didn't know what they were signing up for when they married into the Trump family - they are not stupid, they would have realized that they were joining a very public life.

The adolescent kids should very definitely be off limits from criticism or mockery, but there is no reason why the wives should be.

If and when the wives join the men in public utterances and base politicking, yes. Otherwise, no. Women do not always have such wide ranging choices.

Melania does not do base politicking. She would get into human rights etc., not other stuff. I actually like her, as a person, which i cannot say for any of the other "top Americans"

Her election as First Lady after being a "porn star" (nude model, rather ?) is very interesting, says a lot about Americans getting to grips and managing their basic Calvinist instincts. Which is why Stormy whoever will not have much impact on The Don.

TG's bitching is just ... bitching. He is a frustrated soldier type man living in a land of jihabs and bourkas and other such shit, do not get a glimpse of a decent arse expect when he watches porn ... or buy a whore. Poor sook. Even kous kous is building up too much pressure in his balls .

I love the idea of a sexy First Lady ...

Not that I agree with you on that, but by your own logic Melania is fair game - which is who TG was referring to in the upgrading to a new foreign model jibe that I am assuming got you so offended by

She spoke at the Republican National Convention

She doesn't politic. A FLOTUS is expected to do speeches, at times. Hillary politicked. Barbara did not. Melania does not.

She certainly hasn't been able to speak in public since the many tales of Donald philandering with pornstars and playboy bunnies shortly after the birth of his youngest son came to light.

You'd have hoped that after Michelle Obama set the bar for a First Lady being empowered and having a voice of her own that things wouldn't regress quite so quickly.

Apparently so. Donnie-style involves being spanked on his bare ass with a rolled up magazine with a pic of himself and his kids on the cover.

And being pissed on by hookers in a Russian hotel room while it is recorded. 'The Piss Tape' is real everybody.

Michelle Obama was probably one of the greatest first ladies of modern times. A fine lady.
